Chapter 7
Quickly looking around I spot a roll of white cotton and straight away ideas for summer dresses fly through my head. getting up I kick something hard under the table. A roll of white cotton. Then whys there more over there? I still race over to pick it up as it looked lighter than the other one. when I pick it up I find out that it is not just white cotton, it has little holes cut into it, making shapes of little flowers. From the distance of the stage it look all white but this detail is perfect for the dress in mind. A simple white summer dress with a high neckline that falls just above the knee.
I dash back to my table on the stage and get to work, as I plan to use the white cotton under my table to line the dress.

"Ok, and times up!" mum called stopping us all in our tracks. My dress was just finished and surprisingly looked great. Under the pressure and space of the room, I had no room to move about the table like I normally do.
"Ok guys well done, that was your final task done and dusted. Now may you all stay sat down and I will call you out one at a time to go through those doors and talk to our judges. These are the people who have been judging your work for the last two weeks. It's nothing scary but Good luck" Mum paused for a moment, "Lucie Rose, you’re first"
I stood up slowly and walked towards the doors mum pointed to. Opening one of the doors, I could feel my heart beat faster and it was as if my feet wanted me to turn around and walk the other way, I couldn't work out whether it was because I was scared of the darkness that seemed to fill the room or it was the fear if meeting the people in there but I was frozen to the spot. The door slammed behind me then someone coughed.
"I'm ever so sorry about that." I said feeling embarrassed as I turned to face three figures. Two I knew, one being my dad and the other being.... Link?
"Link?" I croaked
"You know her?" the woman next to him asked.
"Yeah, take a seat Lucie." Link said without any emotion. I didn’t as I was told, to worried to say or do anything else.
"So you know Mr Rose here and you somehow know Link. Can you tell me what you know about Link?"
What do I say? That he has been part of my family events kitchen staff for years now? No! Then they would ask what I was talking about. That he is my boyfriend? I can't say that! Someone will question me to death. I can't even say I go to school with him because I don’t know what school he goes to. Is he even still at school?
Great now I'm panicking.
"It’s alright sweetheart, this is your godmother. She's just testing you." dad finally spoke.
"Sweet-pea, I wasn't trying to panic you. Let’s start again. I’m Susie Holmes. Your godmother. This is Link Heartly, teenage fashion designer of Heartly clothing line, or as you knows him Kitchen staff. Then you need no introduction for you dad."
"Who was the person we all had to speak to over Skype?"
"Me" Susie said.
"Oh cool!"
"Do you mind if we ask you a few questions about the outfits you have made?" Susie asked
"Not at all"
"Where did you learn to sew beads onto lace?"
"I have never learnt, why?"
"Really? Because it is perfect!"
"Your male t-shirt design, did you realise it as a fashion most have for this summer?" Link asked.
"No"
"And finally today's dress, where did you think of the idea?" Susie asked, she seemed to be in charge of the questioning with dad and Link following
"I thought of the idea when I found the fabric. I know it is a common and classic dress"
"Perfect, you can go now and please eat something; we all know what you’re like at competitions" dad said.
"Thank you"

The rest of the day was a waiting game. no one seemed to be in there as long as I was but it still took forever for something to happen. After about two hours of waiting around and talking to people about my work, mum calked out that there was food in one of the other rooms. Everyone charged into the room, leaving the hall empty apart from me and mum.
"Here, I got you some food," she said handing me a plate, "how did it go in there?"
"Alright, I guess. Just was surprising"
"Link?"
"How come he works for us during events, if he's a millionaire?"
"Because he wanted to spend a summer as a normal child, working. Then he met you and made it his mission to get you to fall in love with him as he was already head over heels for you."
"Really?"
"Well that’s what he told me when he went to leave the first year."
"How did you keep something like that from me?"
"It was hard let me tell you that!"
We sat there eating in silence as other people came back into the room with plates full of food. Mum got up and walked into the judge’s room. By this point everyone had been spoken to and we were all just waiting around.
"Right, in this envelope is the top three winners. 3rd place wins 20 full, unused rolls of fabric and a brand new state of the art sewing machine. 2nd place wins 40 unused rolls of fabric of your choice, a brand new state of the art sewing machine and £150 gift voucher for fabric world. 1st place wins 40 rolls of unused fabric, a brand new state of the art sewing machine and a year’s apprenticeship within my company and lead my myself.
