An Affair to Remember

This is my fifth morning here. My fifth sunrise. Tomorrow will be my last.

 

This has been the weirdest vacation ever.  I never thought that a few days of stay here would change my life. My almost perfect life is now a bit askew because of these sunrises.

Yah! I'm blaming the sunrises. I wouldn't have these confusing thoughts if not because of these sunrises. It's better I blame the sunrises than blame KC, right? She didn't do anything! Yah! It's the sun's fault.

I texted Nikki.

ALIVE!

I waited for a few minutes for a reply, but I didn't get any. I had to go out and watch my fifth sunrise. I have to move quickly or I would miss it.

As expected, she was already there. I smiled. Hindi ko alam kung bakit.

I sat next to her, "I might not see something as beautiful as this again starting tomorrow."

"Then you have to make the most of it," she answered.

I just stared at her. She stared at  me as well.

I was the first one to look away, "Let's go grab some breakfast. Let's try something new."

She nodded. I grabbed her hand and off, we went.

After about 45 minutes of driving in silence, hindi na ata makatiis si KC, "Do you know where we're going? Ang layo naman ng pagbribreakfasan natin."

"We're going to Laoag," I answered.

"What? Laoag? Just to have breakfast?"

I smiled, "Yah! Any complaints?"

"Would it matter? Could I change the plans? Or, at least, do I even get to choose?" 

"Yah, you have a choice. It would take 45 minutes to go back to the resort and we'll have breakfast there. Or, we'll drive for about 45 minutes more and we'll reach Laoag's town proper and we'll look for a place to eat there."

I saw her rolling her eyes. She looks so cute when she does that.

Then she glared at me, "Drive faster. I'm so hungry."

"To where?" I asked teasingly.

"To Laoag, of course, Stupid! If we go back to the resort, we just wasted gas for a nonsense joyride!"

I laughed. She's really getting more comfortable around me. She can already call me Stupid right in front of my face. I don't know why, but instead of being annoyed, I actually found it endearing.
