"Hurry! Everyone this way!" "Get out of the way! You'll get killed!!"
Violent flashes of lightning bolted across the sky along with the ear piercing thunder. The sound was enough to cause an earthquake and the lightning enough to send miles of buildings into nothing more than ashes.
Rain battered throughout Soul Society leaving not one shinigami out of harm's way. Many were struck down by lightning, many crushed under the falling debris of the buildings. All the Captains of the Gotei 13 struggled to save as many lives as possible, pushing forward despite their torn and tattered state.
The winds were high, swirling violently around the center of its cause. Just above Seireitei in the sky, a young woman could be seen. Her auburn hair fluttered violently around her and her eyes glowed a frightening white. Her Lieutenant badge on her arm moved violently in the winds, finally coming loose and falling to the ground at such force that it left a crater in its wake.
"What amazing power." A certain captain with messy brown hair and calculative eyes behind those thick framed glasses thought as he observed the woman who stood in the air destroying everything like a mindless beast. Yes, at the moment she was nothing more than a mindless beast. With so much power inside one being, losing control is not something unheard of. Despite being just a Lieutenant, she had more power than even the Captain Commander of Soul Society.
And that is precisely why she had been kept as nothing more than a Lieutenant. To keep her reiatsu under check with multiple seals.
"With that power, my goals would be so easy to achieve. However, it would be quite troublesome if she were to go against me. Her power is not one that can be easily subdued." The captain continued to speak in his mind. He wanted that power. He wanted it so he could be the one to take the place of God. He deserved that position. But even though he himself was much more superior compared to the Captain Commander, this woman was at a level that even he couldn't risk standing up against.
"This doesn't look good. She's not able to get control over her powers again." On another side of the scene unfolding, stood the Captain Commander along with one of his students. "So Yama jii, what do we do about it?" Asked his student, who was now one of the Gotei Captains. His heart thudded hard as he feared the worst.
"Hmmm...." The Captain Commander opened his eyes to look at the woman who he had always considered as his own granddaughter. She was usually cheerful woman who helped anyone regardless of their status and always brought warmth and smiles to everyone around her. She would never want to hurt anyone, let alone kill them the way she was doing so now. She was probably crying so much inside, traumatized as she was unable to control the power that made her hurt the people and the place she loved. She wouldn't want to do this at all.
"Get everyone to the third ring of Seireitei. I will stop her." The Captain gasped, looking at the Captain Commander with wide eyes.
"Oi Yama jii! You're not really thinking of going that far, do you? There must be another way!" The Captain Commander only shook his head, his heart heavier than stone at the remorse he felt. But there truly was no other way.
Cursing under his breath, the Captain disappeared in a flash. Moments later, the only person remaining close enough to still see the woman in the air was the Captain Commander. Drawing his sword as slowly as possible, as if hoping that stalling his decision would bring the woman back to her senses, he held it up pointed at her.
"Forgive me, Cherry." He whispered the nickname he called his beloved granddaughter, a name not known to anyone besides the Captain who had stood beside him until this moment. "Reduce all creation into ash: Ryuujin Jakka!"
Clenching his jaw, he lifted his Zanpakuto a little higher. Tunnels of flames erupted on all sides of the woman, enveloping almost half of the whole of Seireitei. "Ennetsu Jigoku [Flames of Hell]." The Captain Commander whispered and the fire grew, hitting the woman head on and destroying the area of Seireitei that it surrounded.
The only reason why it actually hit her though, no one but the Captain Commander knew. Somewhere deep inside her heart, the woman held onto the last bit of conscience desperately so that she could aid her grandfather to stop her rampage.
Shinigami watching from the distance gasped, many broke out into desperate cries, many more clutched their heads and screamed devastated at the loss of such a good friend.
When the flames finally died down, everyone rushed to the center of the crater where the woman lay bruised and burnt. Her Captain was the first to reach her and pick her up in his arms as gently as possible. The Gotei 13 Captains, Lieutenants and her shinigami friends gathered around her. All of them looked at her, tears streaming down their cheeks in such sadness.
She slowly opened her eyes and looked around tiredly. Finally, her rampage had been stopped. If she hadn't been, more people would have died because of her.
"Jii chan....." Her voice was soft and weak. She smiled, though her eyes and the tears showed how pained she really felt.
"Thank you.....for stopping me. Thank...you jii chan...." She lost her smile, gasping for air like a fish out of water. Her captain held her up more comfortably so she could breathe again.
"Don't talk, Sai [name means blossom]. You'll be fine....the medical team is on the way. Unohana taichou will heal you...." He sounded so sad as well, seeing his Lieutenant in this state, ready to die in his arms.
All she did was smile up at her Captain. "Komamura taichou.....I'm.....I'm so sorry.....for everything. For....what I did....to everyone.....I'm sorry for not....being able to control....my power. But I'm glad....now everyone will....be....safe...."
Her eyes slowly lost their light, her lips lost that smile that warmed everyone's hearts, her body finally going limp for eternity. Her eyes closed slowly and wails broke out throughout Seireitei. For the first time in 2000 years, the Captain Commander let a lone tear make its way shamelessly down his cheek.
The Captain brought his Lieutenant into a gentle embrace, his body trembling and the heat of her body slowly fading against his warm fur. "Sai....if only I had been more careful. I'm so sorry....we'll miss you so much."
"Hmph, what a waste of such power. If I had known of this secret before, I could have put a seal on her and put this power to some use in my own plans." The brown haired Captain adjusted his glasses, putting on a fake façade of sadness to camouflage in the depressed atmosphere around. But as he gazed at the fallen woman in that beastly Captain's arms, his eyes, a mirror reflecting the true feelings of his soul, showed obvious disappointment.
Amidst the tattered state of Soul Society, he smirked slightly, amused. No matter what power had been lost, he was stronger anyway. Now that this woman who could have been the only one to pose a threat to his plans was gone, his goal would be reached with every step going according to his plans. In just a little more time, he would achieve it. He would become God, one way or the other.
And there was no one powerful enough left to stop him.
