Val slowly unlocked the door as she heard my scream, and I ran into Val's room, and she backed away from me as soon as I entered. I heard Aunt Mae bang on the door loudly, almost breaking the lock. I jolted my head towards Val. "Don't you have a home phone in here? I remember mom use to have one in here when you were little," Val was slow to answer, and shook her head, not coming any closer to me. "Val, stop it! I'm NOT going to hurt you. Now help me find a phone before the wicked witch enters the room!" I yelled, tugging her sleeve, as she began to unwillingly help me.

I dug around all of her paraphernalia on her counter of her vanity, and to the right of it, I saw a junk covered end table. I dug around the junk and found an unused, unplugged home phone. "Where's a plug outlet?" I asked Val fast. Val shrugged. "Ugh girl it's your room you should know!" I said before I just found one. It was right behind that end table and I, with struggle, plugged it in. The lights on the buttons came to life. And I picked it up and began to dial the numbers. I dialed Katie's number. It was the only number I remembered.

It rang four times... Finally she picked it up.

Katie: "Hey girlie,"
Me: "Katie, your mom is insane what do I do?"
Katie: "Whaa?"
Me: "Your mom is banging on my door and she tried to hit me!"
Katie: "Are you serious? Is that what that noise is?"
Me: "YES."
Katie: "Oh my God I'll tell dad,"
Me: "Is he there with you?"
Katie: "I don't see him at the moment,"
Me: "Are you effing serious?"
Katie: "Uh I think,"
Me: "Katie this is serious!" (I continued to hear Aunt Mae banging on the door)
Katie: "Sorry sorry. Hey have you heard anything of Harry?"
Me: "Don't mention him Katie,"
Katie: "But I'm like in love with him. I want to hear everything, in case you know... he likes me too,"
Me: (fury building inside) "No Katie. He doesn't like you. In fact he was the one who said don't call back anymore,"
Katie: "OH MY GOD I DID TALK TO HIM!!!"
Me: "I'm about to hang up,"
Katie: "Fine. Fine. DAAAAD!"
Me: *waits patiently as Aunt Mae's bangs begin to soften*
Katie: "Dad and I are on our way,"
Me: "Hurry,"

LATER:

"Here!" Katie said as she entered the front door. I slowly creaked open Val's room door and peeked down the staircase. Katie and Uncle Tyler were standing there and Aunt Mae ran to hug them, but Katie pushed her back. "Mom, really? Cat called me and told me how you were like demented or something!" "I am not demented darling," Aunt Mae told Katie, reaching up and stroking her cheekbone. Katie gently grabbed her mom's hand and took it from her. "Listen mom, I know you are stressed out with me recently coming out of recovery from the accident, but still, don't take out you anger on Cat seriously?" she yelled, holding out her arm in the moment drama. Aunt Mae was quiet, and Uncle Tyler seemed to agree with Katie. "Fine, whatever. I was just trying to make everything more strict so that everything was in order that's all!" Aunt Mae defended herself, but everyone rolled their eyes. I leaned further over the staircase railing to listen closer. "Getting order is not about punishing. We had this conversation about Katie remember?" Uncle Tyler asked her bravely. Aunt Mae ducked down into herself and she put on her thinking face. "Treat Cat and Val how you treat me. You treat me great. Like a mom should. Not like an evil step mom," Katie continued as she walked back from her mom. Her mom shrugged. "Maybe I was a bit harsh," she admitted, rubbing her upper arm. "I think you need to apologize about he phone situation," Uncle Tyler suggested. Aunt Mae glared at him and then sighed. "Whatever," she answered before looking back up the ceiling. I continued to watch as Katie gave her mom a hug, and then spotted me, and smiled, and I smiled back.
