I stared at my broken phone lying on the bare white tile floor.
Val gasped as she noticed what Aunt Mae did to it. She ran over to me and hugged my side, but I pushed her back. "No, this ... This didn't happen! I'm still in London.. I... I.. I.. I'm asleep .. Yeah at Harry's house, this didn't happen.. Oh this," I stuttered as I felt tears flowing. Harder than usual. "Nope Catherine. You are bright and awake back in your home state," Aunt Mae said with a smug smile. I sniffed in and turned my head towards her. I felt the anger rise in me, making me stand up. I noticed in my peripherals that people were staring, I didn't care. I walked slowly to her and glared down at her. I was approximately seven inches taller than her, and I was using my height to it's fullest ability.
Aunt Mae showed no expression of fear or anger.. just of smugness and she was giggling... and she was royally pissing me off.
"Oh Catherine, please. It is ONLY a phone. Stop overreacting," Aunt Mae continued. I glared harder, narrowing my eyes down at her. I swear, if we weren't in an airport I would have punched her right smack dab in the face.
"Whatever I don't give a fuck anyway!" I yelled, grasping the handle of my suitcase and purse and picking up my broken phone from the floor. Aunt Mae laughed at me. "Of course you don't! You are acting so childish anyway! Like I said I treat you how you ACT!" she giggled and I growled in anger and fleeted away quickly until I heard Val yelling my name in the distance. I turned back around to spot Aunt Mae laughing and Val running towards me with her Disney Princess bag following behind her as she dragged it. I paused. Val didn't do anything rude, I didn't want her to be stuck with the life-ruiner back there anyway.
"Val hurry up," I called as she jogged a little faster towards me. "I'm coming I'm coming!" she called out as she ran up to me and was heavily breathing. I patted her head and instructed her to come with me. "I don't like Aunt Mae anymore," Val said with a fearful twinge in her voice. "Neither do I," I said blatantly, continuing forward.
"Where is Aunt Mae going to go?" Val asked. I shrugged. "Doesn't matter if she ends up in hell to me," I said, forgetting I was talking to a little girl. I was expecting Val to be the people pleaser and disagree with me, but I was surprised when she didn't respond but she nodded to my statement. I loved that little girl.
We ended up near security and I heard a siren behind us. A cart with a man and a woman driving quickly, drove up to us. Really?
"Ma'am, please stop," the man yelled, and Val and I skidded to a stop. "What?" I asked, already angry, but apparently I appeared to be having an attitude with him, so he got upset.
"This lady called security to find you. Please stay with your parents," he ordered and the fury built up inside of me.
"SHE'S NOT MY FUCKING MOM!" I yelled as I threw myself down on the floor. I knew I was causing a scene again, but I didn't give a crap. My life was over, and I just wanted to die. "MA'AM! You need to watch your language!" the man yelled back as he got onto his cart and drove off, and Aunt Mae got off the cart right before he drove away. "Tried leaving me again eh? Too bad," she smartly remarked as she caught a grip on my forearm. I jerked it back and almost hit her in the face. "Catherine. Stop. You are causing a scene again, remember what I said about acting your age?" Aunt Mae said again and I was completely flustered. I took a deep breath and looked at her, as normally as I could. "Aunt Mae," I started. "Please just get out of my life. I was fine before--" "YOU WENT TO LONDON! You were ABSOLUTELY fine before you left!" Aunt Mae interrupted. I felt the fury inside of me rise, and was about to explode.
"Maybe I was fine because I was with my MOM! And not YOU! I DIDN'T CHOOSE to stay with YOU! I didn't CHOOSE to come home! You chose it FOR ME and I am DONE!" I yelled, flapping my arms down to my side in fluster and frustration. I grabbed my suitcase and started to walk off until Aunt Mae exclaimed. "MAYBE I WAS JUST TRYING TO MAKE YOU HAPPY BY STILL ACCEPTING YOU WHEN YOU CAME BACK!" I turned around slowly and glared at her. "Accept me?" I started, slowly walking closer. "I was on a school trip... I didn't run away. I can't believe you would even want to NOT accept me. What a family member you are..." I said before Aunt Mae grabbed my sleeve. "You better watch your back young lady. I am your elder and you will RESPECT me this instant," I rolled my eyes and took another deep breath in and exhaled slowly. "Whatever," I sighed as I decided to give in and follow her out of the airport just so she could shut up. Ugh... I'll hear this story later.
On the two hour car ride back home, we sat in silence. I didn't have my phone, so I didn't have music to listen to either. It was brutal.
"Cat, what did you think of London?" Val asked innocently. She was sitting next to me since I refused to sit in the front with Aunt Mae. I didn't even look at her. I looked outside the window at the fast paced passing of the countryside. I sighed, "I don't want to talk about it Val," I croaked. I felt Val's sad stare at me, but I still didn't look. My life is over.
