Drawn 12/15-21/15
Like most of my quality digital drawings, this one took me a few days, but I'm pretty proud of it now that it's done. It was drawn on three layers. The base layer is the white background and basically has the outline of the top half of his body and part of the bridge. The other two layers are transparent, one containing the legs of the railing and floor of the bridge and the top layer containing the rest of Braken. This was a great experience for me to be able to explore the advantages of working on multiple layers on ArtStudio since I only recently started focusing on that area more. The bridge was made by filling each part with a light brown, drawing lines over it with a dark brown, blurring each part evenly, and then using a burn effect of some extent on the whole thing, some areas getting it more intensely than others. Since the bridge was on a separate layer, I didn't have to worry about erasing it when I was working on Braken's legs afterwards, and that's an example of why I love working on multiple layers. For Braken's jeans, I used many shades of blue to vary from a lighter tone to a darker tone multiple times, and then blurred everything to blend it together more. His top is made up of a few shades of very dark gray, but it never gets completely black except for the outline. His hair is pure black. His eyes didn't take very long at all, but I love them. The irises are composed of a very dark brown with some light brown and light brownish-grey flecks, with tiny pure black pupils in the middle. The sparkles in his eyes are not actually pure white, which is very unusual for me, but fairly light grey. His eyes are outlined in pure black and the eyeballs are pure white, offset with a blurred grey overtone from the top. His cheeks are slightly burned, and I used the same effect on his neck, where it's a bit more noticeable. I used both dodge and burn effects on his hands, more so on his right one. The various creases in his fingers as well as his fingernails are light brown, and the seams on his shirt are a lighter shade of dark grey. I spent a lot of time making sure I could make this detailed, and I even looked up real converse shoes to use as a model for drawing his. This is my original imagined character for Braken used in Monstercat University. I kind of imagine this scene as him about to hoist himself up onto the bridge railing when someone stops him to take his picture. The top he's wearing is very lightweight and is most likely something he'd wear in summer when it's too hot for his hoodie. Hope you guys like it :)
