Back in mid-February, we got an odd mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain here. When I woke up on the 16th, everything was a lot more icy than it would have been after a normal snow. There was ice weighing down the tree branches right outside the kitchen, the bamboo trees on the east side of the house, and all the way down to the barn. It melted off quickly, so I'm glad I took this picture early. You can barely see it, but the picture was actually taken during sunrise. I positioned the camera so that the sun shone through right behind this branch. Picking a name for this photo was actually the hardest part of it. I chose it right as we were pulling into the parking lot for the art fair. I wanted to name it after Endlessly by Haywyre because I saw something in it that connected it to that song, but I wanted it to have a name that would resonate more easily with an outsider looking at it. I called it Cold Awakening because it was taken during a sunrise during which you could barely see the sun, and everything was just so cold and grey and overcast and...trapped-looking. I don't really know how to explain it, but I think you might understand.
