Oh my gods this is so long 😂.

Annabeth Chase hated her life.

She hated how she had maids and servants always following her; how she got tutored by the best professors, and how there was no way that she could avoid becoming queen.

But Annabeth was also thankful for her life as a princess. If she wasn't, then she probably would've committed suicide by now, as being a busy princess was the only way to cope with the pain.

Even though she worked hard every day, Annabeth still had the nagging feeling in the back of her mind, that she had failed; that there was something that she could've done.

And yet there was nothing she could do about it. Except to grieve.

The field of wildflowers was Annabeth's place. Yellows and whites mixed perfectly with the green of the grass. Annabeth's mother had taken her here when she was younger, as the place was quiet. Yet even after her mom had died, Annabeth still came here.

Her mother had died giving birth to Annabeth's brothers, Matthew and Bobby when Annabeth was five. As Annabeth's father slowly became more obsessed with ruling the kingdom, Annabeth was tutored to be the wisest queen in the history of Athens.

But that all changed the day Annabeth met him.

She was in her field, stretched out underneath a tall oak tree that rested ahead of a huge forest, enjoying the warm sun on her skin, until suddenly the sun was blocked out.

Annabeth scrambled upwards into a sitting position to see a boy staring at her. He seemed to have snuck up on her while she was half-asleep, and Annabeth quietly scolded herself for letting her guard down.

"Um... hello," she said awkwardly.

"Hi," the boy said. Annabeth gave him a look-over. He looked scruffy. His sea green eyes held a wild glint to them, and his dark hair was ruffled and untamed. A dirty shirt which was too big for him hung off his shoulders, and he looked weak. Not scrawny weak, but tired and exhausted weak.

A volley of questions poured out of Annabeth's mouth. "Who are you? What are you doing here? Why did you interrupt me?"

The boy looked speechless. "I ... I was just looking for food." And then he burst into tears.

Annabeth gasped. "Food?"

"Yes!" He sobbed. "Food, glorious food!"

"When was the last time you ate?"

"A week ago." The boy sniffed.

Annabeth reached into her bag and pulled out a sandwich and a bottle of water. She held them out and the boy lunged. He took the sandwich in his hands, a look of awe taking over his face, before taking a bite, then a another. He ate slowly, and when he was down, gulped down the entire bottle of water.

"Thanks," he said. Annabeth moved so that she was leaning with her back against the large oak tree. The boy was soon to follow.

"What's your name?" Annabeth asked.

"Percy," the boy replied. "You?"

"Annabeth,"

Percy gasped. "The Annabeth Chase? Princess of Athens?"

Annabeth nodded, unsure of what to say. "Yes, I am."

Percy looked genuinely shocked. "I didn't expect someone like you would be here, or be so kind."
