We ran out.

No matter how hard we tried, we ran out.

It was the thing that killed us all, even in the very end.

The only similarities between good and evil.

But most importantly, it was the only thing that had ever managed to conquer us.

Time.

•••

Several years had passed since the end of the terrible giant war. Leo Valdez had arrived a few years back with Calypso, and had gotten married two days later. Piper and Jason were engaged, yet Hazel and Frank were still dating.

However, Annabeth and I were married. We'd moved into New Rome and gotten jobs; Annabeth as an architect, myself as a sword fighting trainer. So far, life had been good. We got married a few months ago, and had a house next to Jason and Piper's.
But we were to learn.

Time broke us apart.

We were there for Piper and Jason's wedding, before Annabeth and I decided to move back to New York. We bought a new apartment, and a few months after that, Annabeth gave birth to our first child.

We'd kept her pregnancy a secret from the others. It had been at least ten years since we last saw them, and even though we tried to make an effort to see then, eventually we fell apart.

Time wore us down.

Our children grew up and went to Camp Half-Blood. Annabeth and I felt lonely. We hadn't visited camp in a few years, so we decided to go.

What we saw was pure chaos.

The camp was in ruins. Bodies lay everywhere, no survivors to be seen. The Big House was in flames, and all of the cabins were either crumbling apart or burnt. Smoke rose steadily in the air, yet the Poseidon cabin had remained untouched.

On my way over to my old cabin, I scanned the bodies. And for one heart-wrenching moment, I saw them. Jason and Piper were lying side-by-side, unmoving. Calypso and Leo were slumped against the remains of the Hephaestus cabin.

And my children, Bianca and Luke were there too. Dead.

Gone.

A single tear slid down my cheek. I stumbled, but didn't fall. Annabeth was crying beside me.

I made my way over to the Poseidon cabin. A sticky note was stuck to the door. It read:

You ran out of time.

Confused, I backed up. Run out of time? What in Hades did that mean?

But it was clear.

We had strayed from our friends. And payed the price.

A/N:

I'm sorry that was sad!! (And for not posting in a while ... oops). I'll try to write a happy one next.
