Percy and I exited my apartment half an hour later. The plan was that I would walk Percy home and we would be holding hands the whole way.
As we walked down the street towards Percy's apartment building, I heard the snap of a camera behind me. Percy glanced over at me and smiled. "Shall we give them a show?" He whispered.
My heart raced as I stared into his eyes. I nodded, and stood on my tip-toes to peck his check. More snaps went off as we continued back down the road towards Percy's apartment.
Everyone was staring. It made my throat close up, but Percy squeezed my hand reassuringly, reminding me that I wasn't alone. I was afraid a reporter or somebody would rush up to us, but no one did. It seemed that the paparazzi were hiding in the shadows.
When we reached the building, I glanced behind my shoulder to look back out over the street. But what I saw horrified me. My blood ran cold. I felt sweat collecting at my brow as I stared shakily into the sky-blue eyes of a gunman. The snaps I heard before weren't cameras. They were guns, and I watched in terror the man raised his gun to point it at me.
The world slowed. I gasped as he pulled the trigger, and someone dived in front of me. Percy. He fell to the ground at my feet and I stumbled backwards and fell to the ground. As I regained my footing, I could see the gunman tearing back off down the street full of blood-coated bodies.
Percy. I thought frantically, and scrambled towards him. He was barely awake, struggling to gulp down deep breaths. My hands shook as I pulled out my phone to call an ambulance.
"What's your emergency?" The operator girl asked.
"I'm outside the Olympus Apartments." I said, my voice quivering. "There's been a gunman and he's shot my boyfriend and others all along the road."
The word 'boyfriend' came out easier than I originally thought. Maybe I could get used to this after all...
"We've already sent Police and a few ambulances, but can you tell us how many are down?"
I looked back over the street. "At least a dozen. Definitely more though."
"Thanks for that. Can I have your name?"
"Annabeth Chase."
There's a brief pause as the woman contemplates this. "Alright, Miss Chase. Just sit tight and make sure that Percy is breathing." Wait, what? How did she know it was Percy?
Confused, I ended the call and dropped my phone into my pocket as I knelt over Percy. He looked up at me and managed a grin.
"Am I dead yet, 'cos you look like an angel?" He said.
I felt my cheeks heat up as I blushed. "Shut up, Seaweed Brain." He only smirked.
I examined the bullet wound. It had hit his thigh, and there was a lot of blood. I gently tore away part of his pants to look at it more closely. Percy winced.
"Ouch,"
"Sorry, Perce."
"Are we onto nicknames now, Annie? Geez, I thought it would take longer for our relationship to bloom."
"Don't call me Annie." I snapped, just as I heard the sound the sirens. I glanced up to see an ambulance speeding towards as, three more and a few Police cars following behind.
By the time Percy had been taken to the ambulance, I was asked by some officers to give them a report. I explained about the guy and how all I noticed about him was his blue eyes and blonde hair as he was wearing a mask. But I did notice that he had a familiar scar running down the side of his face.
"Luke Castellan." I said, snapping my fingers in recognition. "That was the guy."
"You know him?" The Policeman asked before he caught himself. "I mean, the guy from The Titans? You sure it was him?"
My mouth went dry. No. It couldn't be. How could it have been Luke? He'd just broken up with me before this mess ...
"Yeah. I'm sure it was him." The words tumbled out of my mouth before I could stop myself. Was it actually Luke?
But even though I still doubted myself, I somehow knew deep down that it was him.

I sat beside Percy's hospital bed as Sally Jackson walked out of the room. I hadn't had any alone time with him since he was admitted to this ward after the bullet wound was stitched up. Literally everyone had come to visit him. Grover, Juniper, his swim team mates, Jason, Piper, Reyna, Hazel, Frank, Leo and Rachel, his parents and what felt like a hundred others.
Now exhausted, Percy was propped up in bed. I watched the door to his room swing shut and stood up. His eyes locked with mine as I approached.
"So," he said.
"So," I replied.
It was nearly midnight. Percy had to be knocked out while his leg was getting stitched up and now he looked like he was going to fall asleep any moment.
"Strange, huh?" I sighed, perching myself on the edge of Percy's bed beside his arm. "We can't even walk down the street as a couple together without being attacked."
Percy raised an eyebrow at me. "Oh, so we're officially an item now, are we? I thought it was just an act."
I blushed. "That's not what I meant. But now that you mention it..." I leaned over so that Percy's and mine's faces were only inches apart. "I'd like to go out with you, Seaweed Brain."
"Fake or for real?" His eyes were locked on mine.
I shrugged and smirked at him. "I don't know yet, but I'll let you decide."
That was when I kissed him. I leant in and smashed my lips against his. I wouldn't've cared if this was in front of a camera. Heck, let the whole world know. The Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase ship is officially sailing.
I pulled back and took in Percy's wide-eyed expression. His gaze softened as I gave him a quizzical look and he grabbed my hand carefully in his.
"Whatever we were before; friends, best friends, whatever, it's now changed." He smirked at me. "I think that this is real."
