Annabeth threw back her head and laughed. It was a simple, delicate laugh that made even the saddest people crack a smile. Percy thought it was beautiful. Of course, he thought that everything Annabeth did was beautiful.

"Thanks for that, Seaweed Brain." She smiled, reaching up to kiss Percy's cheek. "It's been a rough week."

"Well, if you ever need cheering up, you know who to call." Percy replied, then gave his girlfriend a kiss before he walked away back to his apartment.

The giant war had finished over two years ago and the seven had decided to finish high school and college together in separate ways. Percy, Annabeth, Hazel and Frank had decided to finish it in New Rome, while Jason and Piper stayed back at Camp Half-Blood with Leo and Calypso who had set up a business there.

Percy wistfully remembered when they had saved the world together, and the adventures on the Argo II. Now that the world wasn't in danger of saving, he could sit back and enjoy life.

Annabeth and him had grown closer since the end of the war, and now that they were in college together, Percy was ready to pop the question, yet he just didn't know when. Deciding that he had better go see Hazel or Frank for advice, he stood up and left his apartment.

Once he had left the building, he wandered around New Rome, watching the couples and their kids laugh and play, and also all of the college students working together and completing projects.

One pair of students caught his eye. The girl had luscious blonde hair. She had her back to Percy, but he could see the boy quite clearly. And he recognised him instantly.

Matthew was Percy's enemy. He always shot out rude remarks to Percy every time he passed, and it didn't help that Matthew was into Architecture, so he and Annabeth shared the same classes.
The colour drained from Percy's face as he realised that the blonde sitting next to him was Annabeth. She was laughing and smiling as they worked on a project together.

Percy sprinted to hide behind a tree. He fingered the ring in his pocket nervously as he watched Matthew tell a joke to Annabeth. How dare he flirt with my Annabeth! Percy cursed. The final straw was when Matthew leaned in, like he wanted to kiss her, but luckily Annabeth had turned her head away.

Percy walked out from behind a tree as soon as Matthew had turned away. Annabeth spotted him and waved. Percy motioned for her to come to him and she stood up. "Sorry, be right back." She said, then hurried towards Percy. "What?" She demanded, piercing Percy with her stormy eyes.

"You-you--" Percy couldn't get out the right words. "You're cheating on me!"

Annabeth's expression changed. Her eyes widened. "Excuse me? Matthew and I are just working on a project together!"

"It didn't look like it to me." Percy folded his arms and pouted.

"Well, fine then. If you think I'm cheating on you, then I guess we're over."

And then she marched away.

It took Percy a moment to realise what he'd done. "Wait!" He yelled, then pulled out the ring. He got down on one knee and held it out to her just as she spun around.

"Oh my gods." She murmured, throwing her hands to her mouth.

"Annabeth Chase." Percy began, trying to remember what he had written down, but failed. He decided to wing it. "I've known you since we were twelve, and I understand that I'm a bit of a Seaweed Brain and that I've been a bit jealous lately, but the truth is that I love you with all of my heart. Will you marry me?"

Everyone had turned to look at them. Annabeth had tears in her eyes. "Yes." She whispered. "Yes!" Percy surged forwards, forgetting that he was on his knees. He and Annabeth toppled over, much to the amusement of the crowd of people watching.

Percy slipped the ring on Annabeth's finger as they kissed, and at that moment, nothing could've made him feel unhappy.
