Wow. Geez, this is a long one. Just over 3000 words. Strap yourselves in, guys. We're going back to the good 'ole days where pirates lurked in the waters to come take over your ship and such things as female pirates were non-existing.
September, 1741
In a dark alleyway in the centre of the small town resided Annabeth Chase, backed up against a wall as a boy clutching a knife approached her.
"G - go away." Annabeth sobbed.
"Not until your guts spill across the ground." The boy smirked, a mischievous glint in his eye.
Annabeth was frightened. She was only twelve years old, and girls weren't taught how to fight so she had no way of defending herself, unless she got a lucky blow to his stomach and ran for it.
The knife shone in the moonlight. A dark object for a dark man. Annabeth took a deep breath and then swung her leg up to connect with the man's gut. He stumbled backward, dazed, which gave Annabeth an opportunity to run.
She sprinted towards the entrance of the alleyway, praying that she wouldn't be caught, but she was tackled from behind by the man.
"Help!" She screamed, and the man shoved his hand over her mouth. Tears welled up in her eyes. There's no one to save me, she thought.
But she thought wrong. Percy Jackson, a boy her age, had heard her scream. He ran toward the alleyway and saw what was happening, then shoved the man off Annabeth. The man wasn't expecting the blow, and Percy and Annabeth ran out of the alleyway and onto the street.
Percy dragged Annabeth down the road by her hand. He glanced behind his shoulder to check to see if they were being pursued but there was no one there.
When they finally stopped, it was in front of Annabeth's house. She saw that they were passing it and had tugged Percy to a stop.
"Thanks for rescuing me." Annabeth smiled.
"Anytime." Percy replied.
"What's your name?" Annabeth asked.
"Percy." He turned back down the street towards his home. "I'll see you again?"
"You're not getting away from me that easily." Annabeth smirked. "Of course I'll see you around."
"Good." Percy started jogging down the street. He got to the corner and waved at Annabeth. She waved back. Little did the two kids know, this was the start of something much greater than a friendship...

August, 1746
Percy and Annabeth remained best friends for five years. They did nearly everything together, from playing by the docks to swimming in the rivers that ran down by the fields.
Soon, friendship turned to love. On Percy's fourteenth birthday, they kissed. Annabeth remembered it clearly; they were in the fields on a hill and they started rolling down it like they used to when they first became friends. When they got to the bottom, their limbs were a tangled mess. Annabeth's curly blonde hair was in Percy's eyes. They were so close, Annabeth could feel Percy's breath fanning her face. And before she knew it, they were kissing. After that incident, they started courting in secret, swearing not to tell anyone.
But when Percy turned sixteen, disaster stuck.
Percy's father sent Percy off to sea. Annabeth was afraid that she'd never see him again. She didn't for a whole year. In that time, her father had arranged for Annabeth to get married. She refused.
