Paige woke to someone shaking her awake and calling her name. She shot up and found that it was a certain raven haired boy. She rolled her eyes and laid back down.

She heard Henry sigh. "Do you not want to go?"

"You think I want to go back to where my parents died? And just to get some of my stupid clothes?" Paige pulled the covers over her face.

"No. But, Paige, what if you could find something there? What if there's a clue that was left behind? Isis told me that you were trying to figure out." He said in a tone that reminded her of an eager puppy. Henry pulled the covers off of her and handed her a package.

She sat up. "Alright." Paige examined the package. "What's this?"

"Gear. Get dressed and meet me downstairs in thirty." Henry said and walked towards the door.

"Wait." She said sheepishly. "I don't really know how to get around this place."

"I'll wait outside your door then." Paige nodded her head as he left. She exchanged her t-shirt and shorts for the black Shadowhunter gear in the package. It clung tight to her body, yet was surprisingly easy to move around in.

Paige joined Henry out in the hall. He was looking at a small device. She looked at it with questioning eyes. "What is it?"

"A Sensor. It keeps track of demon levels."

"Oh." She mumbled as he set off down the hall. Paige trailed behind him.

Cole let them borrow his car to go back to the hotel. Henry drove and Paige sat silently in the passenger's seat. She looked out the windows as if trying to ignore him.

"Are you alright?" He asked sincerly.

"Would you be if your entire world changed within two days?" To his suprise, she didn't snipe at him. Her faint British accent faded into almost nothing when she spoke softly.

"No, and I wasn't." He took his eyes off the road to look at her.

A flood of memories fell into his brain; his mother singing to him when he was three, his father teaching him about seraph blades and their names, his sister daring him to jump into the freezing cold lake by their house, and his brother teaching him to use a BB gun. Henry's heart stung inside his chest. "I understand, no matter how much you wish I didn't."

"I never said I didn't want you to understand me."

He turned back to the road, and they rode the rest of the way in silence. He wanted to continue the conversation, but, knowing how fragile Paige must be at the moment, he didn't. Instead, he sat with the memories of his past fading in and out of his mind.

-

"I finally understand why they call it Oakland." Paige said as they walked into the hotel, passed another oak tree. A chill crept up her spine. This was where my parents died, She thought.

Henry's hand brushed hers as he brought it to her shoulder. "Are you okay to go in?" He asked. He held the Sensor in the hand that wasn't on her shoulder. "Demon levels have faded to almost nothing."

"Let's just get this over with."

Paige led the way through the corridors cautiously. She felt Henry's breath on her neck. Other times she would've shooed him away, but being back in the hotel made his presence comforting. Paige pressed the up button on the elevator, and then the button for the tenth floor.

"I wonder what will happen to this place now that my parents are gone."

"The Clave will take care of it. Don't worry about it." Henry said.

Before Paige could ask further questions, they got off the elevator and found themselves staring blankly down the hallway. The hall was completely clean of everything that had happened, but a new feeling of something dark replaced it.

"Did they clean it up?" Paige asked.

"Not that I know of." Henry's voice was shaky.

The room door was slightly ajar, and Henry insisted going in first. When it was clear, Henry ushered her in. Paige crossed to the room where she and her brother would have lived if they hadn't been attacked.

Paige couldn't stand to look in the main area of the room. It still had her mother's and father's blood smeared into the cream colored carpet. The rest of the hotel remained the way Paige had remember it, modern and clean.

"What's this?" Henry asked smirking, but Paige let it go. In his hand he held her calender.

"What do you mean? It's a calender."

"Your birthday is in five days."

"Yeah," She shrugged, "Birthdays are small in my family. Well, were."

"Oh. They weren't in mine." Henry sounded sincere.

"Do you ever wish you could go back to your family?"

"What do you mean? I have my aunt, uncle, cousin and Isis."

"What about your parents?"

"They're dead." He said simply. There was something else in his voice though, pain or uncertainty. Clearly she had misheard him, it was Henry. For all she knew, he was an open book and no feelings went undetected.

"Oh." Paige said under her breath.

Henry moved to turn on the light, when they heard screeching sounds. He pushed Paige behind him and whipped out a shinning blade, all in one swift motion.

A small creature came into the room showing its sharp rows of teeth. Its body was like an aligator, but its tail was like a scorpion's. Paige held back the urge to scream, she'd have to get used to these things.

"Ravener." Henry mumbled.

"Give me something to use." She ordered in a harsh whisper.

"No way. You haven't been trained. I'm not taking a chance and letting you get yourself hurt."

The creature turned its head to Paige as if it had just noticed their presence. It mumbled under its breath. The room began to smell of rotten eggs, bringing back memories of the night her parents had been killed. It finally lunged at Paige, razor-sharp claws sticking out like knives.

"Master, will be proud when I bring him the little girl." It's voice sent a shiver through Paige's entire body. Her eyes went wide.

Henry grabbed the creature by the back and sliced off its tail, before it landed on Paige. The creature clawed at Henry, but he ducked. He was forced to release it.

"Who is your master?" Henry demanded.

"I do not answer to Neliphilim."

With both of them distracted, Paige moved towards Henry and grabbed a blade from his belt. She held it in her hand, and her mind began to sing to her again, Seraph blade. Uriel.

Automatically, Paige's body went into action without warning. "URIEL!" She moved in front of Henry and the creature he held, and drove the blade through its chest. A black substance sprayed from the wound and the beast disintegrated.

"Ichor," Henry mumbled and met Paige's gaze, "Are you alright?" He walked over to her and placed his hand on her shoulder. She was too busy staring at where the demon had vanished to care.

"What did that thing want with me?" Her voice was steady and full of anger.

And how the hell did I know how to do that?
