London - 2012
Henry was on the front steps of the London Institute, waiting for his parabatai. A girl with pale blonde hair walked past him. He tilted his head, surely she wasn't a Shadowhunter if he'd never seen her before. But sure enough, she was walking up the walkway, towards the Institute. The girl's pale blonde hair reflected in the afternoon sun.
"Um," the girl said, now in front of him, "Excuse me?" She wasn't even in gear, he noticed. The girl wore leggings and a long t-shirt. She, also, didn't have any visible runes.
"You can see me?" asked Henry.
The girl laughed, a short, sarcastic laugh. "I'm a Shadowhunter, too, Hotshot." Her British accent was heavy.
"Oh." Henry mumbled as she slipped by him and opened the Institute door. "Henry Lightwood." He called after her.
She turned around, blinking at him. "What?"
"My name," he paused, "Henry Lightwood."
"Penhallow." The blonde girl replied.
Now it was Henry's turn to be baffled. "What?"
The girl grinned. "That's my last name." She winked and walked up the stairs, right as Isabella came tumbling down them. Henry ran over to help her up.
"That's what I was forgetting." Isabella mumbled. "Ninja roll down the Institute's steps...check!"
"Yeah..." But Henry was watching the blonde girl jog up the stairs gracefully.

Oakland, California - Present Day
"Henry!" Isabella shouted.
A blonde vampire with bright red hair and high heel boots rushed towards Henry. She bared her fangs and launched at his throat. He had just enough time to bring down his long sword, sending her head rolling.
Isabella was holding one by the head and jamming her thin fighting sword through its chest. A vamp came up behind her, but she didn't noticed. Henry quickly grabbed for a seraph blade, whispered a name, and threw the blade through the vampire's chest.
"Get the girl!" Isabella shouted, whipping the hair out of her face. Henry nodded and rushed off, chasing the black haired girl down the ally. But she wasn't alone this time.
Vampires rushed him from each side. Disgusted, Henry thrashed his long sword, decapitating them one-by-one. At the end of the ally, the girl stopped and screamed.
"Y-You swore on the Angel." The vampire screamed.
Henry took this to his advantage. "Guess I can do worse than 'he' can." He felt himself smirk.
"Please, please," she pleaded, "I was only following orders. Kill me quickly."
"Tell me who you are taking orders from." He was pleased to hear his voice come out steady.
"Kill me quickly." The girl repeated.
Then Henry heard a voice that made the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. "That'll be enough, Mr. Lightwood. You too, Miss Flores." Henry looked around for the voice that was so oddly familiar, but there was no one there.
"Tell me!" Henry barked.
"I said, that'd be enough!" He looked behind him, where the voice seemed to have come from, but there was no one there. When he looked back for the girl, she was gone.
