I had my bow and arrow slung around my back so it rested on the backs of my shoulder blades and down my back. I looked in the mirror that had a crack in the corner that hung upon the old wall, I looked into my hazel eyes that had some makeup applied too. I took a few steps over to my night stand which was placed right beside my old rusty cot I use for a bed. And I grabbed my archery gloves and pulled them onto my hands and then pulled my hair into a tight pony tail and clipped my cross necklace on me, my mother gave me it for my preschool graduation and I always have I on for good luck. I sat on the edge of my bed and pulled on my combat boots, and then emergency knife that had a harness around my right thigh. I took a few deep breathes in an out, "alright Mackenzie you've done this plenty of times, your a pro. Just focus, think before you act, and don't give up." I said out loud to myself. I got up and walked over to the door, I gripped the door handle in my hand I felt all the fear go to ease. I walked down the long hallway of the school and checked all the gates that shut off the hallways that we didn't need. And I checked them by yanking up on them and shaking them, they all stayed sealed. There was only a few gates down since there was a hand full of us that lived here. I listened to the way m boots hit the tiles of the floor until I got to the gymnasium. This is where the weaponry people stored the equipment and got me armed up for going out on my own or with some of the girls. I walked over to the table that had guns and grabbed a revolver and a pistol. I had two gun holders on each side of my waist. "Hey Paul!" I yelled waving across the gym. "Yea Mackenzie" he smiled waving back. "Hey can you come wrap the duck tape around my forearms?" I asked. "Yea sure." He said walking over. The people who go out are Me, Paige and Mary mostly, an when we do we wear duck tape around our forearms to prevent any of the undead from scratching or biting our arms if we are caught off guard. "Hey do you know if Paige or anyone is coming with me today?" I asked. "Uhm...I'll go ask." He said. The reason why I leave the building everyday is to go search for survivors, food, help, or any materials we need. I'm the leader of this whole place so when I leave I always leave Sydney or Renee in charge. I usually only let y closest friends be in charge because they've been around as long as I have and have seen everything I have so they know what to do. "Hey bud! I'll join you, Mary is doing something so she's gonna stay behind today." Said Paige. "Alright get armed up, we're going to check down towards down town in the suburbs for stuff." I said pullin out a map from a book bag that rested on the table. I rummage through the bag to make sure I have everything I need invade of emergency. Flashlight, flare, matches, rope, bandages and an extra clip of bullets. I threw the bag on my back and grabbed a walkie talkie and placed it on my waist band, I then turned around to see Paige all ready. "We will be back by sun down." I said walking towards the gymnasium doors that led outside. "Alright this is it." I said and then did a handshake with Paige. "You got your walkie talkie and everything?" I asked. "Yea, you?" She asked reassuring. "Yep." I said and then we opened the double doors and stepped outside. "Time?" Paige asked. "12pm." I said. "5 hours till the sun will start to go down, we gotta make this quick and smart." She said. We started walking down the old quiet road that led to the down town suburbs since we prefer not to use a car that would attract the undead.
