The next morning, my alarm was blaring bright and early at 6 AM.

Mom had insisted that I start school as soon as possible, even though that was exactly opposite what I wanted. I had spent the last week or so off of school in order to pack and move, and I was not eager to go back.

Especially not to Brookville High.

When we lived here before, I had still been in elementary school. But even though I wouldn't be going back to the same school, I'd be going back to the same people.

Great.

Groaning as I sat up, I swiped my alarm to the right before getting out of bed, heading top my closet to rummage for an outfit.

I pulled out a pair of light blue skinny jeans and a light pink shirt to go with it before heading into the bathroom to take a shower.

I came out twenty minutes later, dressed with my hair air-drying on my shoulders. The curls prevented me from doing much with it–that and my general laziness and lack of motivation.

Heading downstairs and into the kitchen, I saw my mother standing at the counter in front of her coffee machine.

After we got back from the Jacobson's last night, my mother and I had done enough unpacking so that getting ready today wasn't such a hassle. This included finding the bowls, cutlery, cups, and the coffee maker.

"Good morning, Cass," my mother greeted, not even taking her eyes off the machine, her hands working skillful to prepare a cup of coffee. "Did you sleep well? Are you ready?"

I chuckled. "Yes, Mom, I slept fine. And of course I'm ready, it's not my first time going to a new school."

I walked past her and headed to the fridge, pulling out the gallon of milk and pouring myself a glass. Pulling a straw out of the cup in the pantry, I pop it in my glass and take a sip.

"So," my mother started, taking her coffee mug and sitting down at the table. "Luke should be around in about twenty minutes–"

I choked on my milk, swallowing quickly before coughing for a few seconds. "Luke?"

My mother looked at me as if I was an idiot. "Well, yeah. How else did you think you were getting to school? I'm not letting you take my car, and yours won't be here for another few days. Luke offered to take you for the first week or so."

I tilted my head back and let out a groan, heading back up to my room to make sure my bag was packed. I didn't really know what classes I would be taking, but I thought a couple notebooks would do for the first day.

I heard the doorbell ring and then mother answer it a few seconds later, followed by Luke's voice floating through the house. Slipping my backpack on my shoulder, I walked downstairs to find Luke in the entry way talking to my mother. Ignoring them, my hands worked to pull my black converse onto my feet, lacing them up tight before standing up.
