❝ all I know is we said, "hello."
so dust off your high hopes ❞
Luke furrowed his eyebrows as he watched me, but I pretended not to notice. Our mom's talked for a minute before we parted ways and I followed my mom over to the car.As soon as we got home, I went up to my room to remove the white dress; I would have to remember to bring it to school tomorrow to return.
I hopped into the shower, feeling the cool water run down my skin. I had never been a fan of hot showers, preferring the feeling of my muscles cooling down and relaxing over my skin burning off.
I was still thinking of what to do.
Why the hell did he kiss me?
I let out a groan and closed my eyes, running my fingers through my hair as it became soaked with water. What was he thinking? You can't just randomly kiss a girl with no reasoning what so ever and then pretend like nothing happened.
I squeezed some shampoo into my palm, lathering the bubbles through my hair. As I stuck my head under the stream, the suds ran down my back and into the drain.
I sat under the water stream for a while, just thinking. Instead of resolving my problems, though, I just became more frustrated.
He was messing with my emotions.
I stepped out of the shower, wrapping a dark blue towel around my body and a small white one in my hair.
Still slightly dripping, my feet padded over to my closet and I looked through my clothes. What was I even supposed to wear to this thing? I had been to a bonfire before, but now it was colder and Luke would be there and Luke—
I stopped my pacing and took a breath. Focus, Cassie. You are not going to fall apart because of a boy.
I stopped fidgeting around and pulled on a black bra and matching black panties. I picked out a pair of black skinny jeans with rips in the knee, a light grey wool shirt, and a jean jacket. After getting dressed, I brushed through my hair and decided to let in air dry and curl naturally.
I kept my makeup simple–just mascara and eyeliner–before nervously walking downstairs.
I didn't know what to expect. What if Luke just ignored what happened? What if he didn't talk to me at all? Maybe her regretted it, decided it was just in the heat of the moment and that he didn't mean it.
Flipping on the TV, I tried to drown out my worries, but it didn't work. My mind seemed to be too far gone, and I found myself completely consumed by thoughts of Luke.
"Cassie?"
I startled at the sound of my mother's voice. I looked over at her and she was wearing a beautiful dark blue dress with a high neckline and no sleeves. I stood up with a big smile before enveloping her in my arms. "You look beautiful, Mom."
