On Monday, me and Shane were put in pairs for an History project, based on Edgar Allen Poe.
After dinner, we excused ourselves from the rest of the group, before heading into the library.
"Wow. It's so big," I breathed out, gazing at the library.
"I guess," Shane chuckled. A gently, but masculine noise.
"What?" I looked at him, challengingly.
"Nothing. You seemed so amazed," he grinned, setting our books on the table.
"So? I love libraries," before I could stop myself, it slipped out. I slapped my hand over my mouth.
Shane raised an eyebrow, "What's up?"
"Uh, nothing. Let's just get on with this." I nodded to our books.
"Okay," he smiled and opened his book.
"I'll go and try to find a book on Poe," I said, taking my bag off my shoulder and setting it on the table.
"Righty," he said.
I walked off to the row of books, before realizing I was going in the wrong direction. I turned around and walked to the right, where it had a sign "History". There was probably a gazillion books in this library, I thought.
I took out a few books and walked back to Shane.
He was doodling on his book.
"Great start," I said, rolling my eyes.
"Sorry," he blushed.
"All cool. So, here. Shall we both read?" I asked, pointing to the pile of books infront of me.
His eyes widened, slightly. "Sure." He said.
I laughed, silently and started reading. Edgar's life wasn't so interesting, to me, but he was named "The Literacy God."
He was famous for The Raven and a bunch of other poems.
When I went onto the second book, Edgar Allen Poe's Life, I noticed Shane looking at me from the corner of his eyes.
I slightly blushed, but mentally slapped myself. Focus, Ashley. Control yourself! My brain yelled at me.
After a few more minutes of the silence, I put my book down. Shane looked at me.
"This is boring," I whispered.
"Oh? I thought you were enjoying it," he teased.
"Ugh." Was all I could say.
Shane didn't say anything else, he just looked at me, whilst I looked back at him. His hazel green eyes were gentle.
"Your really pretty, you know." Shane suddenly whispered.
I blushed.
"Th-thanks," I whispered back. I wanted to tear my eyes away from his, but I couldn't.
His eyes were... well, beautiful.
I could gaze at them forever, I thought.
Shane leaned over and - stopped.
"Shane?" I whispered.
"I just remembered! I got a Football tournament thingy against Thournrose Academy. Can we do this... tomorrow? I'm sorry, Ash. I-I really gotta go." He said all this whilst standing up and packing his books.
I just looked at him.
"Oh, um, yeah, sure. Tomorrow."
"I'm really sorry. I totally forgot. See you, Ash!" He skipped around the corner and disappeared out of my sight.
I sighed. We hadn't even got anything done.
Why had he looked at me like that? And, why did he suddenly remember he had a football tournament? At 7:27?
For the second time, Shane Rike had left me with questions.
