The next day, Tuesday, I was running late. Apparently, Alice hadn't bothered waking me up.

I guess it's fair...

I didn't wake her last week, so why should she? I thought.

I grabbed my socks and skirt and quickly put them on.

I grabbed my bag and bit into a granola bar, and ran out.

I ran downstairs, getting a few looks from teachers, till I reached my Humanities.

"Ah, Miss. Milos, you finally decided to join us," Mr. Cooper said, eyes narrowed. He was an old teacher with salt and pepper hair and dark eyes.

"I-I'm sorry. My alarm clock..." I stopped and blushed when he gave me a look.

"Very well, you'll be staying with me after school for 20 minutes. Now, take your seat, please." He told me, smiling.

I turned away from him and started walking towards my seat.

I nearly stopped when I saw a boy with shaggy blonde hair sitting next to my empty chair.  He looked away from me, glaring.  I took my seat before Mr. Cooper could say anything to me.

I'd never seen the guy before in the school.  Was he new? Why did he glare at me?

Why do you care? My brain backfired.

"...then there would be no point in living on Earth. Ashley, why is that so important?" Mr. Cooper asked me.

"Um... Can you please repeat that?" I asked.

Oh, I was going to be in so much trouble, I thought bitterly.

"Why is Art so important to the Human World?" He asked through gritted teeth.

The boy next to me laughed, quietly.

I glared at him and faced Mr. Cooper. "Well, uh, it's important, because, well everything will be boring. But, because there's colours, everything's bright and colourful and... uh, yeah." I was rambling rubbish. The boy next to me was looking at me with amused ice blue eyes. When he saw me looking at him, he glared and looked away again.

"Hmm. Good... description of it, Ashley," Mr. Cooper said.

I didn't know what to say, so I just looked at him.

After an awkward silence, he carried on explaining. I listened to him, not wanting to get in trouble again.

Mr. Cooper was just rambling on. I silently sighed. Peeking from the corner of my eye, I saw that the boy next to me, was called Chase Streedyr.

Chase, I thought.

I shook my head and listened to the grumpy old teacher, who I'd be staying with more than I'd like.
