I looked down at myself, a little self conscious. Nothing was wrong. Then, I looked at Alice, beside me. Her hair wasn't wild. Nothing was wrong. So why is he looking at us like that? As if we've got an elephant on our head?
"Are you coming too?" Shane asked Alice.
"Uh, duh?" She said.
I looked between them. Why are they talking like that? I thought Alice liked him?
"Uh, 'kay. Well, c'mon, Ash." He smiled, warmly at me.
"Wait. What's going on with you two?" I interrupted.
"You know what? My head hurts now, I'm going to bed." She glared and stomped off.
"Okay, then. Come on, Ashley," Shane said, he grabbed my elbow and carried me off into another corridor.
"What was that about?" I asked.
"Honestly, you don't wanna know," he said, grimly. For the first time, the grin that was on Shane's face, wasn't there.
"So, what we gonna do now? Play games?" I asked, changing the subject.
His grin returned. "You are going to meet my friends. And, then, we'll do whatever."
"Wait, what if they don't like me?" I said, nervously. I wasn't good with meeting new people.
"Oh, they will," he said.
"Shane?" I asked, a blush appearing, for some reason.
"Yeah?" He asked softly.
"Why are you my friend? I mean, I appreciate it and everything. But... Why?" I looked away from his gaze.
"I just thought you'd want someone to show you around and, well, you know..." He drifted on. Something flickered across his face. Regret? No. Embarrassment! Shane was embarrassed.
I blushed harder, "Well, thanks."
"Anytime, Ashley. So, here we are," he said, opening a door with the sign; "Game Room."
I stepped inside after Shane; already there were people there. Some boys were playing pool; others playing table tennis. There was a large flat screen TV with comfy looking couches in front.
I followed Shame to a group of boys and a few girls.
"Hey, Gage, June, Hunter. Meet my new friend, Ashley Milos." He nodded at me.
The girl, June, nodded at him and smiled warmly at me.
She had shoulder length blonde hair and dark blue eyes.
A boy stood up and smiled at me.
"Gage Carson," he said, holding out his hand. Gage had curly Ginger hair and black eyes.
I shook his hand. "Nice to meet you."
Another boy, Hunter, stood up and did the same. Hunter had floppy brown hair, like Shane, and Chocolate coloured eyes. "I'm the ladies man."
I laughed.
"Yeah, um, guys? Focus!" June said. She was smiling.
"Why?" Shane asked her.
"Hunter and that dork were having a staring contest," she laughed.
"Hey! Who you callin' a dork, dork?" Gage said, pretending to be hurt.
"Oh, shut up, you guys. You need to welcome Ashley!" Hunter said, nodding at me.
"Dude," Gage whistled. I blushed.
"Shut it, Ginger." Hunter grinned.
"C'mon, guys. First impressions are important. Hey, Ashley, come sit here." June patted the spot next to her. I sat down, smiling.
These people accepted me. Just like that.
June shipped out her phone and started texting someone.
"Guys, Anna can't come down. She's gotta stay in her room for two days after lessons end," she said.
"Seriously? That girls a trouble maker," Hunter laughed. The others joined in.
"Anna's another one of the dorks. You'll meet her. Soon." Shane said.
"Oh, cool." I said.
Cool? That's all you can say? Come on, Ashley. Be more friendly!
"So, what do you do here? Just, watch TV and stuff?" I asked curiously.
"Yeah, but sometimes we're allowed out. You know, in the forest next door," Hunter told me, his eyes sparkling.
"We're allowed there? Won't we like, get lost or something?" I gasped, a little shocked.
"Nah, it's all on the school property so, there's always a way back. Plus, when we go, some of the teachers go too. So, nope, we're safe." Shane told me.
I nodded my head at him. "So, are we allowed, today?"
"Meh, I dunno. Dork, are we?" Hunter grinned at Gage.
"Shut up, Floppy." Gage joked.
These guys were friendly, funny and.. well, friendly. Shane laughed. I looked up to see him looking at me. I blushed and looked away. Fortunately, the others didn't see it.
After half an hour or so, Mr. Lloyd came in and told us we were allowed in the forest. But, we had to be back by 9:30 or else. Me, Shane, Hunter, Gage and June went off by ourselves. It was amazing. It was so big and green. Every meter or so; there were lights. Either hanging down on tree branches or stuck to the ground.
So, it wasn't so dark.
I got to know the others too. Gage and June already knew each other since birth, as their parents were the best of friends and also came to Harrison Boarding School. They also met Hunter, Shane and Anna here. And, now, me. I was glad that I'd made friends. I also found out that I had most of my classes with them. I was happy.
When we got back, Gage and Hunter went to their dorms; Shane insisted on walking me and June to the foot of the stairs. Boys weren't allowed up there. Which also made me question why Mr. Lloyd was up in the girls' corridor.
"Goodnight, June. Goodnight, Ashley." Shane smiled at us.
"Night, Shane." Me and June said.
Another thing I found out was that, June's dorm was 126. Not too far away.
She seemed nice and I liked her already.
After we said bye and walked in separate directions, I walked in my room to find it empty. Alice wasn't there.
Don't worry, maybe she's in the nurses office, I told myself. She did say she has an headache.
I shrugged it off and brushed my teeth.
After getting into bed, the last thing on my mind was the way Shane looked at me earlier in the Game Room.
Then, I was unconscious.
