Not long after the villagers found Megumi, she died. According to the doctors report, the symptoms she had were similar to mine, although mine was worse, yet I survived. On the day of her funeral, I had to attend since my grandparents couldn't make it. To be honest, I didn't want to go. I'm not the best person to be around when something emotional goes down, especially when it's a funeral.
Inwardly, I scowled and smirked at those who mourned her. At the sad and depressing expressions plastered on the villagers faces. I couldn't help but smiled a little. It was a good thing I was at the back of the crowd.
"You shouldn't be smiling," Tooru whispered.
"I can't help it. I don't get why they're sad," I mumbled back.
"It's because they lost someone they care about, Arisu-chan," he said.
"They should be glad. Look at it this way, at least she's in peace. She won't suffer anymore," I retorted.
"You sound cruel. Would you react the same way if I died?" he asked, wrapping his arm around my shoulder pulling me closer to him.
"I won't shed a single tear," I answered after freeing myself from him. "Besides, we're all meant to die, sooner or later. It's life, it's inevitable."
As soon as the funeral was over, I left. I took a shortcut home through the forest to avoid the mourning villagers. Halfway through, I heard noises. Someone else was here as well, in the direction I was heading. Most of the villagers were either still at Megumi's place or heading home and people rarely use this path. Not even Natsuno uses it. Cautiously, I walked until the figure came into view. It was a guy with blue hair and I've never seen him before. He awkwardly smiled at me once he saw me.
"Uh hi there," he said as he approached me.
I looked around to make sure he was actually talking to me and no one else. "Me?"
"Well I don't see any other cute girls here," he smiled.
"Sorry sir, but flattery will get you no where," I told him.
He only laughed in return. "Oh, speaking of no where, I think I'm lost. You see I'm new here. My master's family moved in not long ago," he explained. He must've meant the family that moved into the Kanemasa mansion up the hill.
"Just follow the path and you'll come across the road. Ask the other villagers for directions if you get lost again," I said.
"Thanks. By the way, my name is Tatsumi," he happily exclaimed as he extended his arm towards me.
"Mira," I lied. Reluctantly, I shook his hand. I was extremely sceptical and at times, hostile, towards strangers.
As soon as I got home, I flopped onto my bed. I was so exhausted and tired. Lately, I've noticed more changes. I don't feel sleepy much and at night, I realised my eyes change colour, from dark brown, to golden and eventually red. Other than the fact that Im still hungry, in a weird way, i think I'm faster than before.
I discovered this early in the morning. While making breakfast, I accidentally dropped an egg. In mere seconds, it landed in my hands before it hit the ground. It all happened in a blur.
None of this freaked me out though.
As night approached, I grew restless. My folks were already out cold, so snuck out to take a stroll. The moon shone brightly in the night sky. I decided to give Tooru a little visit.
For some reason, I get all excited and sort of 'alive' at night. Things seem so different than they are in the day time. I enjoyed the beauty and silence of the night. As I neared Tooru's house, I noticed two figures standing in front of his house. They were looking up at Tooru's room.
Silently, hid myself so I won't be noticed. I focused on the two bodies as they leaped up to Tooru's window. The moonlight helped me identify who the two were. A male with short blue hair and a weird hairdo, as if he had cat ears on his head. Tatsuya, or Tatsumi, I think. The guy I met earlier today. The other figure was a girl with long flowing pink hair in double ponytails. It was no one other than Megumi herself. But how?
