Chapter 15: New Year

(December 31st)

Aaron's POV

Today was New Year's Eve which meant that my mom and I were going over Jess' house today. I took a look at my notepad to look at what my New Year's Resolutions are and they read:

1: Go to the gym 4 times a week
2: Make more music
3: Get into charity work
4: Protect Jess with all my might and love her with all my heart forever

I nodded to myself then grabbed the rings that I had for Jess and I then went downstairs to make some breakfast. I greeted my mom with a hug and Kano with a pat on the head then got to cooking. I finished cooking and ate then took a shower. I didn't feel like wearing a shirt today so I just put on a black jacket with some black pants and shoes. I went downstairs and left the house with Kano to go to the park since we weren't leaving for Jess' house until 6:30 tonight. As I was walking towards the park I saw Jason come out of his house with a football and a frisbee. "Hey Jason!" "Hey Aaron." "Where are you going?" "Just to the park." "Yeah me too. Hey maybe we can play fetch with Kano with the frisbee!" "Sure!" We walked to the park and when we got there I let Kano just run around for a bit before we played frisbee.

(Time skip to 5:30)

Jason had to leave because his mom wanted him so I walked home with him and when I got home I decided to rest up before I left to go to Jess' house.

(45 minutes later)

My mom woke me up because we were about to leave soon so I sprayed some Febreeze on my clothes since they smelled like outside. I grabbed my phone and my headphones and we headed out to Jess' house. We got there and I started to unload the stuff from our car. My mom rang the doorbell and Max opened it. "Hi Ms. Walker!" "Hello Max. If your looking Aaron's at the trunk unloading the stuff." "Okay, I'll go help." He walked over to me and I gave him a bro fist then he helped me unload the party stuff. I went to go get the last box when Jess ran out of the house and jumped on my back while I was walking towards the car. I fell on the grass then said "Ow."

"Hi Aaron!" "Like I said before ow." "Oops sorry!" She got off my back then helped me get up. When I was standing she hugged me tightly and I hugged her back. I grabbed the last box then locked the car and went inside with Jess. When I walked into the house I saw Garroth sitting on the couch with one of his friends, I quietly gasped, sat the box down then decides to go outside to the backyard so I could think aloud to myself. "Jess, I'll be right back," I said as I kissed her forehead. "Okay Aaron." I walked out side then closed the door so nobody could hear me. "What?! Who even invited him here?! Don't people know the history I have with that guy? He almost killed me and tried to rape my girlfriend!!" I said aloud as I was pacing back and forth.

Okay okay okay. Just calm down Aaron maybe he's okay. What are you talking about of course he's still out to get you! His parents are here with him, but he still might pull something. UGH!! Why did he have to come here?! Why did I ever even have to meet him? Why am I so tense about this? You could easily beat him. Maybe it's because Jess is so important. Ugh! I sat down on a bench and sighed out of anger. A few minutes someone came outside and I didn't know who it was, but I didn't really care because the Garroth thing was still on my mind. "Okay Aaron you have to make a plan. You need to protect Jess...you need to keep your cool," I said as I kept fumbling with my fingers.

"Aaron?" the voice called. I turned around and Jess was right behind me. "J-Jess...." "Aaron are you ok? You seem paranoid," she said as she put her hand on my shoulder. "W-Who me? P-Paranoid? Pffft ha I can never get p-paranoid! Ha ha ha ha...." "Aaron you may be a good person, but you are bad at lying," she said smiling. "Ugh I know," I said as I sat down and face-palmed myself. "It's just Garroth is here." "Aaron you don't have to worry about him anymore. His parents made him take therapy and he has medicine so he doesn't get angry." It was quiet for a while then I asked, "Are you sure Jess?" "Yes Aaron. I am completely sure." I smiled then we hugged each other and went back inside to join everyone and party.

(4 hours and 30 minutes later)

Jess' POV

I was playing Mario Kart 8 with Alyssa, Austin and Jason and so far Jason was in first place. "Ha! You guys are SO slow for me. No wonder I'm in first!" It was the final lap and Jason and I were neck and neck. We passed the finish line and it said that I came in first place. "Ha Jason! Who's to slow now?" Everyone laughed then Aaron came over to us and asked me to come outside with him so I did. "So Aaron what do you want?" I asked as he motioned me to sit down. He pulled a little box out of his pocket and opened showing two purple and black rings. "They aren't engagement rings just letting you know," he said with a smile. I sighed in relief then asked, "Aaron how did you even get these? It must've cost you hundreds of dollars!" "950 dollars to be exact and I got them with the money from the case I still had left over."

"Wow. They're beautiful." "Whenever we're away from each other we wear these to remember each other," he said as he put his on. I started crying tears of joy when Aaron said,"Jess? Why are you crying?" "I'm crying because of how sweet this is. Aaron I love you so much," I said as I hugged him. He looked at his phone to see what time it was then said, "Oh crap it's 11:59!" As he said that everyone came outside and started to countdown. "10...9...8...7...6...5..4..3..2...1, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!" Everyone yelled. Fireworks went off then Aaron said, "Happy New Year," and kissed me and I kissed back.
