Chapter 21: That Dragon Cancer

Hey guys quick lil note. The name of this chapter is based off of a game I recently played That Dragon, Cancer and it really hit home so if you would like to play you can go get it on steam or you can watch a Youtuber like JackSepticEye play. Anyway enjoy the chapter.

Aaron's POV

I finally spoke up then said,"So, doctor does Emma have a disease or not?" He looked at all of us with worry in his eyes then said,"Sadly, yes and the disease she has is....Lung Cancer." I sat there blankly staring at the ground with anger building up inside. No...s-she can't have Cancer. She's too young! She shouldn't have to go through this! I said to myself in thought. My father then asked,"How far into the stages is she?" The doctor flipped through a couple pages then said,"She's only in stage two which gives her a much bigger chance to heal. She'll need to stay here for a while and I need both parents to stay." My mom looked at me then I said,"It's okay mom. Em needs you more than ever so you need to be by her side." She nodded then took out a blue key and a wad of cash that was about 500 dollars. She smiled then said,"We'll go stay at a hotel nearby and Aaron will leave in the morning, but he'll come and visit first." We finished talking to the doctor then we said good night to Em and went to a hotel.

(At The Hotel)

We got to the hotel and I took a shower, thinking about Jess leaving and now my sister having cancer. It just hurts knowing that everything has to be so sad right now. Just stay on top of it Aaron. You have to stay strong not only for yourself, but also for everyone else. I say to myself in thought while washing my hair. I finished washing up then checked on my mom in her room. I could see that she fell asleep so I went back into the living room area and pulled out the couch so it would be in bed form. I changed my clothes to my sleepwear then turned on the T.V and drifted off to sleep.

(Time skip to 10:45 PM)

I woke up instantly to the sound of my phone ringing. I fumbled around trying to find it then saw it fall onto the floor. I quickly grabbed it then answered groggily saying,"Hello?" The other end was silent then I said once again,"Hello?" "A-Aaron I didn't wake you up did you?" the voice said. I immediately recognized it to be Jess then I looked at the time and it read 10:50 PM. I responded saying," Huh? Oh no no, I just uh, dozed off ha ha." Jess giggled and I smiled then she asked,"So, how have you been?" I frowned and didn't answer for a while then Jess asked with worry in her voice,"Aaron? Are you still there?" I got up and looked outside the window then said,"Y-Yeah I'm here." "You sound sad. Is something wrong?" I slowly blinked as I scanned the dark yet brightly glowing city. I then continued speaking,"It's just that earlier today I had to travel here to Nevada because my sister was in the hospital and they found out she has lung cancer." Jess didn't say anything for a while which made me think she went to the bathroom or is in shock. I was getting tired so I said,"Well Jess if your not here I'm gonna he-" "No no! I was just in shock," she said with a warmness in her voice.

I smiled to myself because Jess made me happier hearing her voice. "I'm sorry that she has cancer, Aaron. It must be really weird that all this sadness is happening for you," Jess said. I sighed then said,"Uh yeah I just don't wanna get off that topic right now." "Okay..." Jess said. We talked some more until about 11:15 then I she said she was tired so we said goodbye to one another then I went to bed and fell asleep.

(The Next Day At The Hospital)

I was in the hospital with my mom as I said my goodbyes to everyone. I hugged my sister tight then gave her a locket that said Remember Me and when she opened it she saw a small picture of her and I playing outside with one another. She smiled then said,"Thanks Aaron. I'm gonna miss you." I looked on the ground then looked up at her and hugged her. I said goodbye to my parents then left for my flight home.

(10 hours later)

I finally got back home and when I opened the door I was greeted by Kano jumping on top off me and making me tumble onto the floor. I couldn't stop laughing because he kept stepping on my chest and licking my face. Finally I got him off and went into the house. I scanned over it and it felt really weird being alone even if I do have Kano. I sat my stuff down on the counter then upstairs into my room and I started to sing to out loud for my heart.
