Chapter 1:

My name is Lea, you can call me L. My last name really no longer matters in this world.

You may be asking what I mean by, "no longer matters in this world." So I will tell you.

About 10 years, when I was around the age of five-six, this world took a turn for the absolute worst. People were dying, kids left without a family, parents separated from their children. Not to know if they will ever see each other ever again. The cities crumbled, the government started to fall. All trust we had could only be to certain people. Well that is for the time being.

I bet you asking how this all happened. Let me tell you that too.

Zombies.

I know you're thinking this, along with me, is all just one crazy thing to scare you or make you laugh. But this is a wake up call. I am no where even close to joking about this. People are dying and coming back! Our world has caused it. We are our own destruction now.

Their are few remaining cities that are supposed to be guarded. Unfortunately, our guards have long past disappeared. Some say they fled, some say they returned to their love one, or what's left of them. But i believe it was cowardliness. The fear that they can no longer save anyone, barely even themselves.

That's why we are heading to the cities.

Ash, Bex, and L.

*Flashback*

"Mom? Mom?! Mom!" I scream searching the dark vigorous safe house my family and I have set up.

It has been four days since I have left to salvage for food and water and clothing to keep what's of my family. The four of the seven that use to be.

Sadly, when this whole thing began, my father James, my younger brother Alex, and my older sister Kalie were not immune to whatever it is that ultimately ruined out world, but I'm guessing it was us. As soon as it began they turned into the human-craving monsters we know and see on a regular basis.

Only my mother Patrice, my older brother Liam, and my little sister Andy have made it this far into the nine year epidemic.

I know by this far into it I shouldn't be still be this upset and disappointed to find another loss, but I can't control that.

When I walk up the worn down the stairs, stained with black blood of zombies and deceased families, they creek under my weight. I tie my dark blonde hair into a lose knot and go to the familiar apartment room and knock the familiar signal.

Two knocks, three knocks, six knocks.

Andy opens it and then goes to huddle in the corner with Liam. That's when I notice a body on the floor.

Mom.

"We--We had to, L. We--We had to do this," sobs Liam with is blue eyes, like mine, stained with red from all of his crying. "She was really sick so we decided to just let her be in the other room so should would hopefully get better. When Andy and I went to check on her she came flying at Andy... She as one of them, L!"

I go over to inspect my mother to see how. Then I notice at the bottom of her long nightgown is a bite mark, bitten at least two weeks ago.

When we moved spot.

"We need to go fast guys! It's no ones fault she was already infected from the move we endured. She never said a word. The disease is lingering her. I know we are immune to it as it is air born but I can't afford to let either of you get it. Leggo." Andy pops up but Liam stays crouched down, ignoring my instructions.
