Chapter 22:

Lea's POV:

"Looks like we could have used that extra seat after all, huh, Trent?" A small chuckle escapes my lips. We now have two extra members to the team. More for us to look after and to try feeding. Trust me, I am very happy we have more people to fight with us, but it's getting harder. I try taking he smallest amount so everyone else gets a fair portion. It doesn't bother me, considering I get sick easily for my stomach disease, but we need to sort this out.

"They can sit on he floor. We could move another seat so people can sleep on the floor while we are traveling late into the nights. Anyways, we have another week of traveling ahead of us until we can find the cities." Trent points out. The idea is brilliant in the circumstances. We'll probably be traveling more than a week, with the low rations, blankets, and supplies.

"At our next stop we will arrange that." Looking over my shoulder, I see that Sam and Andy are talking a lot. It's really cute. Now she won't be crushing on a twenty-seven-year-old. Speaking of which, the twenty-seven-year-old has seemed to find his missing girlfriend. Turns out that where she was is the house they were looking at when they were seventeen. Everyone is finding someone. Slowly, I reach my hand over the cup holder and little compartment-thingy and take Trent's hand. Gladly, he hold mine back. This is the first time I've willingly taken his hand when everyone was around and there weren't zombies attacking. I'll admit, I'm bad with committing to something. Like with people, that is.

On my old team, I fell for the leader of the group. What he wanted wasn't at all what I wanted. He'd try things, and I'd push him farther away as they got more distinct. Finally, when I had decided that we could try making a compromise, he had left me for dead. Literally. I was sleeping at one of our safe-houses and I woke up to squealing of three different cars. Trust me, I never really want anyone who has made this far to die, but I wouldn't mind if he was attacked by vicious zombie squirrels.

"L? Are you okay?" Trent asks me quietly, trying not to attract the attention of everyone else. But I don't think that is possible. Liam and Ash are to busy talking, laughing, and Liam even kisses Ash a couple times. Puppy dog love. Reed and Bex are sleeping on the floor in sleeping. Max and what's-her-face are catching up with everything that's happened over the past few months. As they were before, Sam and Andrea and getting to know each other, which is totally cute and I totally ship it. (Sorry... FANGIRL MIND OVER HERE... I read too much... Like 4 books in one weekend... I need to get out more... Naw...Who am I kidding? I like sitting in my room.😊)

"Yeah. Yeah. I'm thinking about my old... You know what? It's nothing." As much as I want that to just brush over Trent, it won't. He doesn't let things, that concern me, just blow over. If he was a pet I had, he would've been a guard dog. Very protective, sly, strategic, lovable, and cute. Now all of you are going, "EWWW. MUSHY!" But I am a deep thinker with a mushy fraction. It's how I roll people. Deal with it. (Mentally pounds chest.)

"What was it? Tell me." Trent demands. I don't think the brute was necessary, but that's how he is. A sensitive yet tough guy. Like Tobias Eaton. Reminds me so much of him, it's not even funny how much he reminds me of him. They were going to make that movie, but you know. Apocalypse and such.

"My old boyfriend. He was a dick-head. The likes of him were so rotten I seriously thought his heart had melted away with the apocalypse. Like The Governed in that old show The Walking Dead. Just crazy. He was always trying to push me around, but I wouldn't allow it. The sick-minded bastard got sick of me not committing to him, that he left me for dead." My voice is low, to assure no one can or will listen to me. Liam doesn't even know this. I mean I've only been here with him for two-and-a-half months. Trent has been here, with Ash, Bex, and I for four-to-five months. Anyways, I'm with him. Romantically.. Okay that's sound stupid. When I say 'I am with him' it'll mean we are dating. Not 'romantically' because that sounds stupid. Okay? Okay.
