Afreen came towards us with a frown on her face. Diya asked, "What's wrong?"
"I need to go meet Farhan, now. He's going to Saudi next weekend and he has the nerve to tell me now!!" Afreen said, angrily.
"Do you want us to go with you?" Diya asked, gently knowing very well that Afreen was more hurt than angry.
Afreen tried to say no when I said, "We'll come. Anyways we were going home now. Where are you meeting him?"
"The usual place, Sigma mall" Afreen said.
I looked at her puzzled and asked, "Didn't you guys get caught there once?"
She sighed, "It's the best option. The other places are near to our relatives home, so chances of getting caught by them is more." That's how it is in this country. Having a relationship is considered to be a sin as it is against our tradition and culture. There are few families who are broad minded and are okay with it. But, still most of the population frown down on people falling in love, out of marriage.
We decided to take the bus and then directly go home from Sigma.
Farhan was already waiting by the time we reached. He smiled at us politely and impatiently turned his eyes on Afreen, Who was busy glaring at him. We quietly excused ourselves and left the love birds alone.
"Now?" I asked Diya.
"I don't know." She said, distracted.
I frowned at her and pulled her into the nearest CCD.
After we ordered, I looked at her and asked, "What's wrong?"
She sighed and said, "This Sam is driving me crazy. We have been fighting since the past few days. I can't take it anymore."
"Do you actually love him?" I asked, puzzled.
She glared at me and I said, " Okay. okay. sorry. I just meant that you could do so much better than him. You need to figure out your feelings for him. You guys are together one day and by the next few days you break up. It's been going on for a year now. It's frustrating to look at. Decide once and for all if you want to be in a relationship with him."
"I don't know, Ana. He hurts me all the time. And now with Dev in the picture, I just don't know." She said.
My eyes widened, Dev??
"So, you like Dev?" I asked her cautiously.
"Yes. I do. He's a really nice guy. He listens to what I have to say and actually cares about me." She said and looked at me scared, "No I don't like him like that. Do I? Fuck!! I don't know." She whined and banged her head on the table.
I looked at her, worried. "Abhi chodo. (leave it now). Think about it later and make up your mind soon." I said.
"Someone was asking about you, yesterday." Diya started, changing the subject, with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"Oookaayyy?" I said, which came out as a question.
"Look. just hear me out okay?" she said. I nodded at her to continue.
"I met Dev yesterday for ice cream, after college and Abhi had come too." She said.
"You met them? Where? And When did you start calling him Abhi? It's been only 2-3 months since we know them. How can you just go out with them alone. It's not safe. Who knows what kind of people they are. You trust people way too much." I huffed out.
"Will you relax. Nothing happened. I atleast trust people. You don't trust anyone! Not everyone has an ulterior motive, Ana." She said, exasperated and continued, "Anyways, Abhi was asking why you didn't come and he was asking a lot of questions about you."
She waited for me to ask what he wanted to know about me and was innocently sipping her coffee. I tried to control myself, but like curiosity killed the cat I asked, "Fine. What did he ask?"
She grinned at me and started talking animatedly, "Just general things, like where you stay, what you like and if you have a boyfriend and all. He's a really nice guy, Ana. I know he seems like a jerk when you meet him. but, once you get to know him, he's really nice. Give him a chance na? I think he really likes you. Atleast become friends with him."
"Have you seen me? And have you looked at him? Tell me how can such a good looking guy fall for someone as average as me.I'm fat and I wear huge glasses. I have met him only once, okay maybe twice and we hardly spoke. How can he like me without knowing anything about me? I bet he's just looking to pass his time." I said.
"Do you own a mirror? Let him get to know you. You are an idiot, any guy will fall for you. You are pretty and he's genuinely interested in you." She said.
I just shook my head and looked away.
"What am I going to do with you? God help this girl." She said, dramatically.
"Oye. Nautanki. Chal. Bahut ho gaya tera Drama. (Drama queen. Come. Enough of your drama). Afreen texted. Let's go home." I said, rolling my eyes at her.
