Burka- a type of covering worn by Muslim women as their traditions.
Niqab-headscarf that cover their head and face.

My cell phone started ringing and after seeing who it was I cut the call. I looked at myself in the mirror once. I was short with only 5 feet in height. I was a bit curvy (I prefer that over being fat) with brown eyes and dark wavy hair that fell past my shoulders. I rushed out to see my best friend Diya waiting for me on her scooter. Diya was tall and had a to die figure. She had all the guys eating out of her palm. She has been my best friend since the last two years and because of her I have come out of my shell.
"We are late already." She said.
"That's a good thing. We won't have to attend her class." I said, grinning.
"What about Afreen?" Diya asked me as I got on behind her.
"She's late too. I asked her to wait in the canteen." I said.
She drove through the busy Bangalore roads manuvering around all the portholes and finally parked in front of the college.
I looked at my college and was wistful. I had just one more year left to graduate from here and it was making me sad. I still don't remember how the past two years went by. This was greatly due to my two best friends. I was not exactly happy about joining here as it was my last option. Doing a graduation in Biology was not my dream. Trust me it's nobody's dream. Despite all that, I fell in love with college, the professors and everything about it.
As we near the gate I see Afreen wearing a burka coming towards us.
I wave at her and call out, "Hey, Affu. Come soon. Let's go."
Diya bust out laughing next to me.
"That's not Afreen. It is someone else, Ana." She said, still laughing.
Yikes. The other girl who was clearly not Afreen gave me an annoyed look as she passed us.
Still laughing we went to the canteen to wait for Afreen.
We sat in our usual place to have our breakfast.
This time when a girl wearing burka came near us, I peeked under the nikab to check if it is Afreen.
Afreen swatted my hand away while Diya roared with laughter.
"What's funny?" said a voice.
All three of us turned to see a tall dark lanky guy looking at us. Afreen and I smiled at Sam (short for Sameer), but his eyes were only on Diya who was not looking at him. Oh god what did he do now? Afreen and I exchanged looks. Sam was Diya's boyfriend of almost a year. They had started dating each other at the end of second year.
He kept looking at her with puppy dog eyes and I couldn't take it anymore.
"What did you do?'' I asked him.
"Why do you think that I did something?" he said, sheepishly.
I gave him a look.
He sighed, before he could say anything Diya picked her bag and said, "I'm going to class." and rushed out.
Sam gave her an annoyed look.
"See the way she behaves. She won't even look at me." he said.
This was usual. When they both fought, Affu and I were the counsels.
"You should just apologise." Afreen said. Afreen is short like me (though she believes she is taller than me), very thin. She looks like she will fade away any minute. She's very beautiful and would be giving all us girls competition if she was not hiding behind her burka all the time.
Sam glared at her and whined, "I'm always apologising."
I just shook my head. Whatever it is they will sort it out.
The rest of the gang, Abhay, Harsh, Harshad, Meghana, Chavi and Sanjana came to the canteen one by one. Harshad and Meghana were holding hands and were making goo-goo eyes at each other. I gagged. They were in a relationship and had been together for almost five years, but still looking at them together and them being handsy with each other was too much sometimes.
We had all become close friends in the last two years and this was our routine. At the start of the day we would come to canteen and then together go to our class. If one decided to Skip, all of us would too.
"Where is Diya?" Meghs asked with an evil glint in her eyes. She knew Sam and Diya had fought and she wanted the whole scoop on it. She was a nice girl, but I hated this side of her.
Before I could say something nasty, Afreen just pulled me behind her and we went to class.
Sanjana was as usual sticking close to Sam and he was doing nothing to pull away. I glared at him and he just shrugged at me. Diya spotted them as soon as they entered the class and glared at them. I could see the hurt behind her anger. Just to rile her up Sam moved closer to Sanjana. He will never learn. I Hope it's not too late. I could see Diya was at the end of her limits and if he didn't start being responsible, she would dump him. Although I never told her, I honestly feel that she could do much better than him.
Afreen and I took our seats next to her.
