Ch. 8 First Sight

" Would you like some water? We have some in the back?" Matsui said to me, noticing I was staring out the window.

"Oh thanks...but no I'm good." I say trying to hide my nervousness.

He turns back to his window. I look forward, seeing the back of the driver's head. He was a tall man with thin gray hair, that wore a black suit and a hat. He referred to himself as "Watari". I thought that was a pretty cool name to be honest. He seemed very serious, yet caring.

"So...Matsui." I began.

He looked at me wide-eyed, slightly smiling.

"Yeah!" he said happily.

"Or Matsuda? Which one do I call you."

"Well, my real name is uh Matsui." he said, trying to assure me of it scratching his ear for a split second.

I knew it wasn't. Everytime he was nervous I noticed he scratched behind his ear. Matsui was probably his alias. I mean, not like I could blame him, Kira needs a name to kill. I shouldn't pry then.

"Okay...Matsui." I said pretending I believed him, "Why did L and the team want to bring me in?"

He looked at me with his mouth slightly open,

"Um well..." he began.

Watari cleared his throat.

"Eh hem"

'Wow even the driver is in on it..'

Matsuda made eye contact with Watari through the rear view mirror and then looked back at me.

"Well you're just going to have to wait for L to tell you." he said looking at his hands in his lap.

"Fine" I said sighing, looking back out the window.

About 15 silent minutes in the car passed by. I noticed we were pulling into a hotel called, "The Grand Lux"

'A hotel? I thought there would at least be some kind of distinguished headquarters. I guess it's better to move around. That's kind of smart'

We pulled into the parking garage and I noticed there were only three cars there.

Watari pulled the limo into a spot and quickly got out of the car, opening the door for Matsui and I.

"Thanks." We said in unison.

We both looked at each other and chuckled.

"You'll handle it from here Mr. Matsui? Room 1261." Watari said facing him.

"Oh yes, thank you!" he said replying cheerfully to him as Watari walked off to a different location within the hotel.

"Where's he going?" I asked, confused.

"To be honest, I never really know what he does." Matusi said laughing uncomfortably.

"Okay, let's go." He says motioning for him to follow him.

We walk in the hotel and the fresh smell of lemons greets my nose. This hotel was super nice. It was practically empty tho. All I could see was one worker at the front desk.

'I wonder if staff was limited because L is here?'

I follow Matsui to the elevators as we patiently wait to hop on.

"I'm kind of nervous." I blurted out randomly.

Matusi chuckles. "Yeah I was too! L's uh...pretty intimidating...but not in the way you'd think." he said squinting his eyebrows as he pressed the elevator button.

'What do you mean? Not in the way I'd think?" I asked curiously.

"Uh you'll see. L...is just...not how I pictured L" he said giggling nervously.

What did he mean? How did I even picture L in the first place. All these years I never thought about how L would look. I wonder if L is cute? What's his hair color? Does he even have hair? OH MY GOD. What if L was a girl? That would kinda be bad*ss.

"L IS a man though, by the way. " Matsui said out of nowhere.

'Oh'

We get out the elevator on the 12th floor and make our way down the hallway.

Butterflies flutter in my stomach with every step we take closer to the hotel room.

"1257" Matsui counted as we walked down the hallway.

"Oh god I'm...going to meet L. It's just really hitting me right now'" I thought to myself, sweating.

"1259"

'L. The man I had obsessed over for years. The man that's solved every case they'd taken on. The man that could end Kira. 'The man-

"Here we are!...1261" Matsui says slowly opening the door to reveal a room full of men.

'The man that could-'

"Well, We meet face to face, Miss (L/N)"

'... Change my life'
