I walk down the street, my eyes pinned to the ground. I couldn't help but think about Touka. What did she see? Were the hallucinations what caused her heart attack, or was it....Kira? No, there was no way it was Kira. Why would Kira feel the need to kill my sister. But then again he already took my father....
FLASHBACK
"LET HER GO SARA!"
"I KILL BOTH OF THEM OR WE LEAVE THEM HERE YOUR CHOICE!"
I looked up at my father with tears in my eyes. I could see the look of fear and pain on his face.
"Sara please put the knife down." my father said shakily.
"Mommy don't hurt Touka!" I pleaded begging her to remove the knife from my sister's neck.
"Shut up or your next you scum!" My mother screeched at me like a maniac.
My mom and dad continued yelling back and forth at each other, my father trying to get her to let go of Touka, and my mother insisting my father leave us and run away with her.
I looked at Touka. I had never seen her so afraid at the time. Her eyes were filled with worry and her skin ran pale. She struggled trying to get out of my mother's grasp, but each time she did my mother pulled the knife closer to her neck. Even with her life at risk, tears running down her face, she looked at me, and smiled. That was the moment I realized, all my sister cared about, was making sure I felt safe. That small reassuring smile never left my mind.
I fell to the ground, clutching my head and squeezed my eyes tight. I was helpless. I begged someone to stop it. And within seconds ... my mother's screams quieted.
I slowly opened my eyes to see Touka running towards me crying. She grabbed me and turned me to face the other way. But she was too late. I'll never be able to get that picture out of my mind.
My dad standing over my mother's lifeless corpse.
FLASHBACK OVER
"(Y/N)!" Misa yelled, prancing across the street towards me. I snapped out of thought and looked up at her.
"Misa!" I exclaimed, running towards her.
She grabbed me and pulled me in close.
"Oh (Y/N), I am so sorry about Touka." She said as she rubbed my back.
I sat there silently not knowing how to respond. I tried to hold back my tears as I loosened our embrace.
"Let's not talk about it, for now." I said looking down trying to suppress my emotions.
"Oh...okay! Well let's go to that cafe I was telling you about!" Misa says excitedly as she takes my hand and leads me down the street.
I follow her lead down the street into this cute, cherry blossom themed cafe. I look around. It felt really...peaceful in here. The waiter led us to our table and handed us our menus.
"Sooo... what was the big news?" I ask Misa, still skimming through the food options.
She looks up at me as her eyes lit up and grabs my hand.
"Well, first off I need your help with something." she said with her eyes
pleading.
I turn my head slightly before answering and notice a man sitting across from us staring right at me.
"Um...ok? What is it?" I say looking back towards her.
"Well you're really smart and all, but I have something I want to put on these tapes and I need your help transferring them. I'm klutzy so!" she says giggling.
"Uh yeah what day do you-
'He was still staring at us'
"Uh what day do you wanna do it?" I continue trying to brush the stares off.
Did he just think Misa was pretty? And was being creepy? Or did he think I was? Nah probably not me, I've never had men stare at me, it wouldn't make sense. He didn't look like the generic creepy man. Considering he was dressed pretty nicely, groomed, and was moderately attractive. But I guess that'd be stereotyping, huh? Anyone could be a creeper.
"I'm thinking about maybe later today? I need them as soon as poss-"
I lock eyes with the man staring at us.
I cut Misa off.
"Okay I can't take this anymore." I said.
I shifted my body to directly face the man, his eyes widened.
"You got a staring problem, buddy?" I asked, clearly annoyed.
Misa gasped. "Was he staring at us the whole time?" she asked.
I maintained eye contact with the man for a few solid seconds before he opened his mouth to speak. His face flushed red.
"Uh.. No! No! It's just um...I'm a really big fan of...Misa Misa!" he exclaimed nervously, scratching behind his head.
Misa Misa was Misa's modeling name. She wasn't too famous, but famous enough to get recognition from strangers, I suppose.
"Oh." I said turning back to my menu.
"Awwww! You're a fan!" she exclaimed, waving at him.
"You're so cute too! What's your name? I can give you my autograph!" she said happily reaching for a pen in her purse.
"Oh ya! Haha I'm actually a huge fan!" the man exclaimed reaching out to shake her hand.
"I'm Matsui!" he beamed, his hand shaking.
'Damn he's so nervous...someone has a crush'
The two begin talking about her modeling career as she signs his napkin.
'This was so damn awkward. What am I supposed to do? Just sit here?
..... I guess I'll go on my phone'
I take out my phone and check the news as the two continue to converse.
Suddenly an email pops up on my screen.
The Subject Line read "IMPORTANT".
'Ugh probably a Nigerian Prince telling me he's going to give me 10 million dollars for free.'
I usually didn't open emails from unknown senders, but for some reason my curiosity got the best of me. I clicked on the link. It had a single sentence.
"I am the head of the Kira Investigation,"
'What the f*ck ? The Kira Investigation. Does that mean...'
I continued reading.
'There's no way'
My mouth dropped open as I gaped at the screen.
It read...
'I am L.'
