Caleb's POV
"Are you seriously going to do it?" Kaitlyn asked, carefully.
"Yeah." I replied. Quickly. Anxiously. I'm second guessing this. What if she thinks that I like her? Oh. Well shit Caleb of course she will. I'm so nervous I can't even think straight. How does Jasmine do it? She seems so calm all the time.
"Well, there she is," I didn't turn around. I don't want her thinking something's up.
"With Connor." she sighed with disappointment.
My anxiety level lowered and my eyes widened.
"What do you think he's saying. What he's telling her? Can you read their lips? Is he--"
"Calm down, Caleb. Wow, I've never seen you like this." I whipped my head around. It was weird seeing Jasmine with Connor. I felt jealous, as she smiled. Smiled wider. What's he saying?
"I can't-- Ow!"
"Yes you can, Caleb." Kaitlyn cut me off by pinching my ear."Forget about whatever freakin' Connor said, okay? Just go, ask her. That's it. I'm sure she'll say yes."
Chances are, Connor just did ask her out. But Kaitlyn's right. Whatever Connor said to her, it doesn't matter because I'm going to ask.
"Go." Kaitlyn whispered, as she pushed me lightly.
Here it goes. The moment I've been waiting for a long time, but it's not the way I hoped I'd ask. Just like the kiss, Connor is making everything so... complicated. It's like, everything that I always wanted... I get. In the end, it's worth it or it's not.
I have to win.
Because I will. I have to.I approached her. A little too quickly, I think I saw her jump.
"Oh. H-hey Caleb you startled m--"
"Look, whatever Connor said to you, I want you to listen to me. I just wanna, ask you something. I've been wanting to ask for, a long time." Shit, I'm talking so fast."Okay."
This is the one question I've been dying to ask. The one question that I've been practising in the mirror ever since I met Jasmine. That one question, I'm going to be asking, right now.
"Do you--" I paused. For a really, long time. A little too long...
"Do I?" she broke the silence.
"Did you wanna--"
I thought the words would just slip out, and be over and done with, it's harder than I thought.I took a deep breath. Then out.
"I was wondering if you wanted to be partners for the science project, we had to do, you know--"
"Um, sure? I don't see why not."
"Okay cool, see you later."
I couldn't do it. It was something I've always wanted to say out loud. I wanted to scream. It was just one question. No, no. it wasn't just one question. It's that one question that could change everything. Both ways. It could've broken my heart. Or maybe not.
