2: Why not?

Touka had not seen Kaneki all of the past week since her encounter with him in the alley. Unfortunately she had seen plenty of Hide, who had asked her every day since then whether she wanted to go out with him on a date. Even Hide was starting to become discouraged, he had been starting to think that he is an asshole that does not deserve her.

Kaneki and Hide walked into Anteiku and both ordered coffees before the daily action of Hide asking Touka out, drawing a sigh of exasperation from her and in response a pout from Hide.

"Hey Kaneki, I'm going to go now okay. I still have finals and exams to do, will I see you after school?"

"Okay, bye then. No, I have to do something for the evening."

"Okay, baiiiiiiiii Touka-chan!"

"Bye" Touka half grumbled due to his extended annoying farewell.

"So what are you doing tonight then Kaneki?" She then slapped her hand on her mouth and mumbled. "That's not what I had meant to say."

"Oh, I just have some business to take care of in the 4th ward"

The fourth ward she thought, what the fuck was he doing in potentially the most dangerous ward? She then left to clean the counter, she stared at Kaneki with many questions about where he came from, and how he became powerful. Kaneki then sighed, and said without lifting his eyes from his book.

"If you want to keep staring at me, take a picture, it will last longer. If you have any questions ask me after your shift, doesn't it end soon?"

Touka reddened immediately and looked at her feet while replying a meek, "Yes, it ends in 10 minutes." She was very glad that the cafe was void, save Kaneki, it being very early in the morning. She was blushing because of someone she met just one week ago, she thought, she had lost her tough girl routine.

Touka invited Kaneki inside to one of the rooms upstairs. They sat down on the couch with yet another cup of coffee.

"The real food is a farce just in case regular people come here right?" Kaneki asked. Referring to the sandwiches and vegetables in her fridge.

"Yes, we throw it out once a week, while it costs to do this, it has saved us once from discovery."

They sat in an awkward silence for several minutes, only drinking the coffee. Well, it was at least awkward for Touka, as Kaneki was quite comfortable with his feet on the small coffee table as he sipped the wonderful cup of coffee.

"So how did you defeat Nishiki so easily last week, he is an "A" rank, and many think he could advance to be a "S" rank in the future, does that mean you are S rank or above?" Asked Touka.

Kaneki cracked his finger and go ready to answer then the manager walked in. Kaneki stared at him warily, he stood up and thanked Touka for the coffee and moved in the direction of the door. Kaneki walked out the door and Touka looked at him in utter confusion.

"Yoshimura-san? What was that about?" Demanded Touka.

He merely smiled in response and walked out the door, quickly grabbing Kaneki while he was walking down the stairs. He walked back into the room, holding a miffed looking Kaneki by the collar.

"NO, you old bat! Leave me be!" Kaneki yelled.

The manager sat him down and stared at him calmly, Kaneki twisted his neck a couple times, for an old man he is strong, Kaneki thought, then again, it was the Yoshimura. He stared at Kaneki with a soft smile displayed on his face, getting on Kaneki's nerves as he stared at him before asking,
