Chapter 10- Forgiveness
Kai staggered to his feet as he was surrounded in darkness. Kai looked around in panic as the world suddenly illuminated, lying on a concrete street he felt a stabbing and unbearable pain arise in his stomach. He settled his eyes to the source, a pulsing red tentacle that only one person he knew had, Kaneki. Kai looked up and was met by Kaneki, face spilt into an eerie smile. Kai moved his hand to his back and grasped the end of the tentacle in confusion, hurt, and anger, all mixed into one blaring emotion, betrayal.
Kai rose from bed in an instant and immediately moved his hand to his stomach that was now healed on the outside, but the stabbing pain form his dream was like a phantom, stirring up his insides. Kai lied back down, trying to decipher what his sleep had shown him. Kai had missing pieces from his fight with Jason.
He knew Kaneki cared deeply for the people close to him, so that was why it was such a wonder about if what he had seen was the reality of what happened. Kai groaned loudly in drowsiness as he looked at the clock to his right, 1:37, plenty of time to sleep. The idea that Kaneki turned on him stayed with him until he fell asleep, the same dream occurring repeatedly.
Kaneki woke up and rubbed his face multiple times before feeling a warm feeling on his back, he turned his head behind him and saw Touka's sleeping face, peacefully ignorant that Kaneki was staring at her. Kaneki didn't base his opinion of someone's worth or quality based on their looks, it was entirely based on that person's personality, he wasn't a materialistic person.
But now that Kaneki was almost face-to-face with Touka, he could analyse every bit of her face shamelessly, he was surprised at her attractiveness, even though he had known her for more than a few months. It was just something he never even bothered to acknowledge. Never less, in his opinion, she was beautiful.
Thinking back to the previous night Kaneki felt infinitely better, like a two-ton weight had been released from his shoulders. Touka's eyes flitted open and she yawned, stretching her arms as she did.
"What the..." She began quietly, she peered down to her stomach where Kaneki was now fake sleeping, not daring to face Touka's wrath when she realized that he had slept with her on the couch for the second time. Touka flushed but remained calm, not wanting to "wake" up Kaneki, she heaved him off of her and she walked to her room, closing her door soundly.
Kaneki sighed quietly as he sat on the couch, another problem on the rise as he thought up of multiple solutions, all of them unideal and unreliable. The issue on his mind was the one about Kai and what he should do about telling him that he had been the one to attack him, not Jason, in a fit of insanity. He thought back to Touka's words on the rooftop before he had gotten angry, he was sure that Kai would be very hurt and angry, but he was beginning to doubt his own opinion and thoughts about other people and their acceptance of him.
The previous week had been eventful for Kaneki, he had faced his torturer, he had viciously attacked one of his only friends, he had talked about what happened to his mother, and he had had to ask multiple people for advice on how to move on from a death of a loved one.
Kaneki ran his hands through his head in exasperation, he didn't know what he could do, but for the moment, he could go talk to Kai to see how he was doing and see if he could feel less guilty.
Kaneki walked into the guest room and saw that Kai was still sleeping, his face was contorted into a grimace of pain as he shifted against the bedsheets every so often. Kaneki sat on the chair with his head in his hands while he waited for Kai to wake up. He didn't have to wait for long as after a few minutes Kai rose in a sudden upright motion, panting as he looked around frantically.
