Kaneki and Touka strolled around Kami, he showed her his classes, the area of the school she would be in if she got in, and the various places where no one would notice a drug addict missing if she felt peckish.
"Touka-chan, I know it isn't Anteiku, but I know a really nice café that serves quite good coffee, not as good as Anteiku, but it's still really good. Would you like to go there before we go back to Anteiku?" Suggested Kaneki.
"Sure, why not. I'll test the coffee and see if your taste sucks Kaneki, it probably does." She teased.
They walked for a little before Touka remembered to ask about what happened at Anteiku when Kaya seemed to be staring at Kaneki, and she could hear through the door that she was asking him some kind of question that she couldn't make out, but it was clear Kaneki hadn't answered.
"So, you want to tell me why Kaya was questioning you and why you weren't answering before we left? She never has that look on her face that she did, she seemed to have a combination of worry, anger, and confusion on her face." Touka demanded somewhat forcefully.
"Uh, how about this." Kaneki winced after seeing Touka glare at him for saying that. "How about I tell you on the way back from the cafe okay, I promise, just not this place, not this place especially." Kaneki spoke in a hushed tone while his eyes skirted around the premise of the 20th ward CCG main building. Touka looked up and saw where they were, she was very uncomfortable as she had always been told this was the heart of the monster, and yet they were here walking right in the premise.
Kaneki scanned across the courtyard thoroughly and tried to seem like he was only looking once in awhile, which was normal for any person.
"Don't act suspicious, they'll ask you to come inside then..... Oh my fucking god, it's that old crazy shit Mado Kureo. That's someone you have to stay from, he's a pain in the ass and he absolutely loves killing ghouls." Kaneki complained upon seeing an investigator and someone else he didn't recognize as they walked closer to them.
In short, he looked like mad scientist, one eye shut, the other possessing a crazy gaze, looking everywhere erratically, he had white hair and was his figure was hunched over. They were still about fifty meters away but that was close enough for Kaneki to still feel comfortable. They didn't need a fight in the middle of the headquarters.
As they were getting closer Kaneki spoke in a hushed tone. "Touka-chan, I'm really sorry, but hold my hand until they pass, trust me on this. He doesn't believe ghouls have any emotions other than pleasure from murder, so it might throw him off. He is quite good at deducting the difference between ghoul and human.
Touka fought the blush rising to her face as he hand slipped into his, both hands were quite cold and they relished in the warmth of contact. They created a five-hundred meter distance between them and the CCG before letting go of their hands awkwardly as they strolled down a long side street a wall of bushes separating the street from a park.
"So why did we walk through the CCG Kaneki? That's hell for any ghoul, if you make any mistake and seem in the least bit suspicious they have the authority to take you in and question you." Touka asked curiously, questioning Kaneki's decision making skills and rationality.
"First off, it's a shortcut to the cafe, and I have also been wanting to scout out any potential trouble from high rank investigators. I saw Mado and a fresh partner that he was with. He might be seasoned but I'm not sure, Mado is a veteran that is obsessed with quinques and he is almost as bad as some of the gang ghouls I have met. That was all I could see this time, and I was with a girl who could be seen as my girlfr-" Kaneki instantly cut off when he thought about what he was going to say.
