Chapter 17: Family Ties

Kaneki walked from his apartment to the hideout quickly to escape the cutting cold of the rain that had started while he was resting. It was a long walk to the meeting and he was shivering by the time he got there, whether from the cold or his own nerves he did not truly know. He was always on edge whenever he had to meet with them, the majority of them were cutthroat radical and sadistic ghouls, but they were who he had grown up with, in the past, he would consider them family, but recent events had made him reconsider that sentiment greatly.

In total, there were 12 executives including him, making Shachi the 13th. Kaneki walked into the room housing the meeting and pulled off the drenched jacket that was glued to his arms, Seto saw him and waved him over for him to seat beside him. It was absolutely silent until the last person came in and sat down. The step-in leader would normally be Kaneki, but since he had been gone for so long he didn't really have the right to start in his position again, instead Seto spoke up and started the meeting.

"Alright, we're all here for the first time in at least five years, for the duration of the meeting, try not to kill each other, or we will all face punishment. Let us start the meeting with our primary concern, Aogiri." Seto grabbed a few files lying on the table and slid them over to every second person at the round table.

"This contains everything we know about them, unfortunately, we lost our information gatherer Kai a couple months ago, so we have lost a lot of potential information about them as well as everything else. We have sources in their gang, but we do not have a way of contacting them because Kai has now passed. We know a lot, but not enough to perform a strike on them. We need his laptop that contained everything." Seto explained in a calm voice that was very unlike himself.

He nudged Kaneki in the arm and whispered, "We are going to talk about that later."

Seto sighed and started again, "We know something very valuable that occurred in the last 24-hours, one of our agents who works at Cochlea reported that Aogiri broke into the prison and freed numerous S-SS ranked ghouls, including Shachi."

Kaneki's mind was aflame, he could not fathom Shachi ever being released or broken out at any point, he didn't know what he could expect if he came back. His thoughts were interrupted by Seto standing up and assertively saying, "We do not know what they are doing with him or what he will do next, the way we figure that out is if we contact our informants, and that is why we need that laptop. I have a plan, I will explain it to the person involved afterwards."

One of the executives stood up and slammed his hands on the table, "What if he joins them?! Who the fuck are we going to have leading us, this insane faggot Kaneki? We might as well kill ourselves the very same day."

Seto held a hand and started trying to calm him down, "Now Chiyo-"

"What?! Don't try to deny he'd fuck everyone over, what the hell does he care about this gang now? He's been fucking that purple haired slut in that fucking coffee shop instead of actually doing anything. He can't even protect Kai, at least he does something for us, you were just too deep in that bitch to fucking care you fucking child!" Chiyo yelled from across the table, his kagune had activated and he was panting and he glared at Kaneki.

It didn't take a second for Kaneki to sprint across the table and slam Chiyo on the ground with his six kagune tentacles poised to strike. "What the fuck did you say about her?" He growled.

Chiyo spat in his face and laughed, "The kid is defending her, that's rich, why don't you go back to the place where no one wants to kill you, traitor. Maybe you'll get back after I visit her, she seems like a nice time, probably wouldn't mind it at all." His face was split in a deformed grin that faced Kaneki's ultimate expression of hate and anger as he plunged his kagune through Chiyo's body into the concrete floor.
