Chapter 13: It's better this way

Kaneki, Kai, and Touka reached the back of the building and entered the basement door silently, waiting until the Aogiri members left the floor to head for the invasion on the upper floors. Dressed in the black robes of three Aogiri members that they had killed, they headed upstairs in preparation to fight.

Kaneki heard a large crash and rapid bullets fired in quick succession, he peered around the corner and saw a white-investigator tear through a legion of snipers with a large scythe that had straight edges that looked like a staircase. He turned back to Touka and Kai and started walking up some stairs that were nearby, "That's the investigator with Jason's quinque, let's go."

The three of them ran up the stairs and several hallways until they came across seven gang members huddled in a corner, seemingly planning out what to do when an investigator came. Kaneki jumped at them and sliced three of their heads off swiftly with his kagune, Touka fired needles at three of the others while Kai was holding the last person up against the wall face inches from theirs.

"You piece of shit, I recognize you! You were in V you traitorous asshole! What the fuck man!" Kai punched him in the stomach and pried a needle off of Touka's kagune, shoving into the man's leg as he screamed against Kai's forearm that was muffling the sound.

"Kai, that's enough, we just need to know how many of the executives are here." Kaneki pushed him off of the panting ghoul and grasped his collar roughly, "Is Eto here? Is Ayato?"

"Y-y-yes, Ayato was here, but who is Eto?" Answered the man feebly, clutching his leg painfully as Kai started to pull upward with the sharp needle, he mumbled incoherently until he met his end when Kai stuck the blade in his head.

"You are violent today." Observed Kaneki.

"I'm just a bit tense, let's go, we won't have much time. Hey Touka, why don't yo-" Kai had spun around to talk to Touka but he found that she was no longer present in the room, she was gone.

"What the fuck, where did she go?! She'll get herself killed, let's go get her, Ken." Kai ran down the hallway and turned around a corner before Kaneki could catch up. Kaneki went around the corner but didn't see Kai there, there was a split in the hallway as one stairway went down and the other up.

"For fucks sake, what the hell is he doing now?" Kaneki grumbled exasperatingly as he stormed down the stairs, going in the opposite way that Kai had left to.

Kai opened the door and stepped onto the rooftop, he saw what he had planned. Touka and Ayato fighting, Ayato was trying to avoid her and wasn't trying to fight, but Touka was coming at him in a flurry of attacks, forcing him to retaliate. Kai sat down on the ground and smiled widely, making the two siblings cease fighting to stare at him confusedly.

"Hey guys, how's the sibling reunion going, I hope Ayato isn't beating you too bad." Kai laughed while Touka glared daggers at him.

"Kai, you stay out of this, it has to be just me and Ayato, I need to make this piece of betraying filth pay." Touka spat as she got ready to sprint at him. She leapt at Ayato and moved to kick him, but was stopped by a single punch to her abdomen, sending her toppling to the ground.

"Weak." Ayato said as he grabbed her by her shirt, playing the villain. He struck her multiple times in the stomach before launching her across the rooftop in a crumbled heap. He turned to meet Kai who was now standing up right behind him.

"So Ayatooooo? What's your assignment to rejoin Aogiri?" Kai asked innocently as Ayato's face hardened.

"I've never seen someone so upbeat about their own death."
