I didn't get any sleep. I was thinking the entire night. I heard Sal's door open and then I heard him head downstairs. I ran out of my room and chased him to the couch.
"Good morning, sweetie. Happy New Year" he said.
"Do you not remember what happened last night?" I asked.
"I don't, but Q texted me just now saying that I was really drunk and I was really mean to you" Sal said.
"You were so drunk. You told me to shut up. Then you said that you would ruin my life by telling me the truth" I said.
"Oh. I didn't realize that. You expect me to tell you the truth now, right?" he said.
"No shit. Now what is it?" I asked.
"I-I just can't tell you right now. I don't think you should ever know" he said.
"Seriously? Whatever it is, I can handle. This is the second time you blurt something like this out. Something is going on, and I need to know" I said.
"What do you want for breakfast?" Sal asked.
"Don't change the subject. Tell me" I said.
"I need to get water. My mouth is dry from drinking last night" he said.
"You're still changing the subject. I'm going to ask Q. He actually wants me to know" I said while walking to the door.
"No! Listen Jo, let's just put this in the past and enjoy life. I know it sounds cheesy, but please, forget everything" he said.
"You're right" I lied.
"Thank you. I'll make you a breakfast sandwich" he said.
I went up to the window and saw Leo, the most amazing boy ever, walking his dog.
"I'm going outside for a walk" I said.
"Okay. I'll be making your sandwich" Sal said.
I walked out of the house and saw Leo. He was the only friend I've made in Staten Island so far.
"Hey Jo!" he said while giving me a hug.
"Hey" I said.
"Is everything okay? You seem pissed" Leo said.
"There's something that Sal won't tell me, and he says that I need to know, but it will ruin my life" I said.
"Well, that sucks. I'll make you feel better" he said.
He kissed me. We kissed for a while, until I opened my eyes and saw Sal peering out the window.
"Sal is looking out the window. I'll see you later" I said.
"Bye, Jo" Leo said.
I walked into the house. Sal was all of a sudden sitting on the couch watching the news.
"How was your walk?" Sal asked.
"Shut up. I know you were spying" I said.
"Haha. Sorry. I'm a sucker for teen love. Just don't cause any trouble with Leo, okay?" Sal said.
"Okay" I said.
"Okay what?" Sal asked.
"Just okay" I said.
"You were supposed to say 'Okay, Dad'" he laughed.
"You're not my dad" I said.
"Oh come on! I may not be your father but I treat you like a daughter" he said.
"Okay, Sal" I laughed.
He sighed and then gave me my breakfast sandwich. It was actually pretty good.
A little after 9 am, I started school. I was finished at almost 7. I ate dinner while talking to Sal, then went on my phone, then went to sleep. This was my routine for a week -- until the cruise.
