Jason.

'' Cailen, stop bouncing around and sit.down.'' I ordered my son who hadn't stopped moving since we got here.

'' why is the house made of wood?'' Cailen asked as he proceeded to climb the chair so he could look at me. '' that's stupid, I read that termites eat wood, what if termites eat our new house?'' he wanted to know.

Good question, I thought but all I said was, '' because it is a cabin, they are made of wood.'' Cailen didn't let it go. '' it snows a lot here too. Daddy, I want to go back to New York, I hate cold.''

I didn't reply Cailen as I went along cleaning the house, he began to sulk and pout, he was usually a nice kid, he rarely made trouble and kept to himself a lot, he was fiercely independent my baby, he would rather die than ask for help. I sighed and dropped my duster and walked over to him, he sat in the big rocking chair which engulfed his tiny body not to mention, he was wearing Jaz's jacket which passed even his really tiny feet, my heart aches with love as I state at thus tiny, loveable boy.

'' look, I know you miss New York and Aunt Jaz, but we can make thus our new home, you and me. We can have snow fights and make snow men and if my book sells I'll be able to spend more time with you'' Cailen looks as if he is seriously considering this,'' I didn't want to go either but you know, as long as you're here, I know I'll be okay. ''

''you promise?''

'' I swear on Dora the explorer.'' I said very seriously.

Cailen giggled, '' Not not on Dora, on Bakugan.''

''on Bakugan, it is. Now, are we okay?'' Cailen nods and giggles happily, '' why don't you help daddy scrub the floor? If you finish, we can wax the floor and all the wood and if we finish before bed time, I'll give you my special gift.''

''okay, I love gifts.'' Cailen exclaimed jumping out off the chair, he quickly grabbed his gloves which were too big and began to scrub the floor. The floor made of white oak I really should read more about wood, are u meant to wax it, I have no idea but if it looks nice, What cares? Actually, this house was more like one of those fancy houses in movies or it would look like it once I'm done with it, no one has lived here nearly ten years, it was a three bedroom cabin made from teak on the outside and beautiful white ash and aromatic red cedar on the inside, this place is a museum of wood, but it is also made partly of stone and glass.

The whole left side of it is made of glass, and it had three bedrooms with bathrooms and for some reason, a pool even though it was constantly snowing. Cailen would love it here once it was clean and if it ever stopped raining, he could swim, he was an excellent swimmer

We spent all day cleaning the house, polishing, dusting and sweeping, just getting everything in shape, by the time we finished it was 12 midnight, then we began to unpack, I unpacked my things and arranged them then helped Cailen, most of his things are books.

Cailen has a love affair with books and he is only six, I mean some of the things he reads, I haven't even gotten round to reading them, like Shakespeare, even today I can't understand even the first page of any of his books, whenever I mention that to Cailen, he tells me that Shakespeare probably wouldn't have understood me either. Cailen has a huge collection of books which is nice, I guess and he draws too, I guess he got that from his dad nice guy, that man (his dad, I mean.) He is very smart, handsome and intelligent and humble too.

After all that, I still had to help Cailen bath not because he can't but because I was scared he would drown in the bath tub I don't exaggerate when I say he is tiny, really tiny, it is very funny to watch him sit in a big chair reading THE GREAT GABSY, it's like watching a baby, but my son is far from a baby, he is so damn independent, it infuriates me at times, I have no idea where he gets it from.

Just as I thought when I filled the jacuzzi with water and placed him inside, the water reached his nose, I couldn't help laughing.

'' not funny, dad, I could die you know'' Cailen protested splashing water at me angrily.

''sorry, okay?'' I apologised but I couldn't help snickering. He really was still a kid, no matter how mature he seemed at times.

Despite my apologises and promises of ice cream, Cailen pouted thru out the bath and as I watched him pick his clothes and dress, I left him drawing in his sketch pad and went to take a bath.

The warm water lapped against my skin as I settled in, it was quiet out here in the middle of the snow forest as I called, but I liked my privacy, even if it bothered on seclusion, I sighed enjoying the water promising myself that no matter how feminine it was, I would put scent oils in the water next time to help me relax and a glass of champagne, well not really, I don't drink, maybe a coke or something, soda. Tomorrow, I would go to the station and get settled in, I wasn't really scared about being predujiced for sexuality, the sheriff and the mayor were gay actually, openly gay and the mayor was married with three kids, It was a really free town, even the church here was accepting of gays, the world was actually revolving, ever slowly but surely, the police here was actually quite developed for a small town, they had over forty members not to mention a task force and bomb squad, once I was settled into my job, I could look into schooling for Cailen, but summer was just beginning, no rush, even if I had no idea where I would leave Cailen when I went out tomorrow, everything was settled, for now.

Then I heard the smell of something cooking, COOKING, that made me sit up, apparently not everything was alright seeing as my son was about to burn down my new and expensive house but almost perfect.

''Cail, what are you doing?'' I asked.

''making dinner'' was his reply, was that all? Not sure if to be worried, because I hadn't bought any supplies.

'' what are you doing in there, dad?" Cailen asked, not a Queston any parent expects to hear from his kid, it is usually the other way around. "having a water birth? Really, today princess."

I should really keep Jaz from influencing my kid was my first thought then I realised I had already done that by taking him from New York, God, I missed her so much.

Luckily, Cailen.didn't burn anything and had even managed to scrap together four club sandwiches which we ate with some potato chips and coke we brought from New York, it was actually a pretty nice meal, I had taught my boy good.

We barely finished the food before we collapsed in bed, it had been a long day since I had drove into honey edge that morning, well yesterday because it was 3am, and I had to be up early again tomorrow, as I held my son close and tight, he snuggled closer and as I thought of the sign that had read welcome to honey edge as I drove to town that morning, I thought of all I had left behind and realised I really was on the edge of a new life.

Author's note: hope u enjoyed it, feel free to comment, no homophobic statements, by the way, I love kids so they'd probably appear in almost all of my stories. Kallie out.
