"Y/N!" Newt screamed and screamed. You couldn't hear him though. It was if he were shouting from behind a glass wall.

The Griever lunged at you and struck your arm. You cry out but continue to run as fast as you could, which wasn't very fast at all, considering you were exhausted.

The Griever shrieked in excitement and pulled back its long needle, ready to inject you with its serum.

"Y/N run!" Newt shouted. He tried to throw things at the Griever but somehow they never made it to the sliming creature.

You couldn't keep running forever, you were getting slower every step you took. There was no way out of this.

The Griever turned its mechanical arm and screamed again. You fell to your hands and knees, knowing there was nothing you could do.

Then the victorious Griever plunged its sharp needle into the middle of your back.

Newt gasped awake, shaking in a cold sweat. He tried to breathe normally and instead ended up shaking even more. His breaths were shallow and he wasn't getting enough oxygen.

"Just a dream," he muttered. "Just a dream."

But it felt so real. Newt forced back threatening tears that clouded his vision and numbly swept his legs over the beds side. He pushed himself up and tried to breathe deeply as he walked to his door. Out of his bed room. Into the hallway. Your bedroom door. Breathe, in and out, he reminded himself. He pushed open the door and saw your still form.

He walked over to you and checked your breathing. You were fast asleep, your breathing steady and peaceful. There was no pain, and you were fine. Newt exhaled and opened the blanket.

You jumped awake at the movement of the blanket and looked up to see who was above you. Newt.

"Hey," you whisper. "You alright?"

You could see the dark circles under his eyes and his messy hair that you loved. He didn't reply but you already knew the answer. He slid in beside you and propped his head up with his hand. He stared into your understanding eyes and stroked your hair.

"Sorry, Y/N," he mutters and slides his fingers down a strand of your hair. "I just have these bloody horrible nightmares."

You frown. "About what?"

"You, mostly," he sighs.

Your eyebrows knit together. "Me? What do I do?"

Newts eyes fill with pain but he tries harder to focus on your piece of hair in his fingers. You loved his soft touch but he was worrying you. "You get stung," his voice wavers.

Your heart falls and you pull him close to you. "I promise I won't get stung, okay? I'm not even a Runner."

"I know," he sighs and looks at your eyes again. "But it just feels so real."

You rub a thumb on the dark circles under his eyes. "You need to sleep, Newt. You must be exhausted."

Newt pulls a face of exhaustion, fear, and worry. "N-no I can't. I can't go back to those shuckin' nightmares. I can't keep watching that, Y/N."

You lean forward and press your lips to his forehead. "Hey, you don't have to, alright? I'm going to be here to protect you from them. With me you won't have anymore nightmares."

He looked at you with a hopeful face and nodded. "Okay," he whispered. He rested his head and you did the same.

Your hand wrapped around his. He smiled a little. "Maybe I should do this every night. Your beds much warmer than mine, and this way I can avoid those terrible nightmares."

"Hey, they didn't make my bed big enough for the both of us for no reason," you laugh. Frankly you liked newt here much more. It wasn't as cold, wasn't as empty. "Okay now you get some sleep, I'll fight off any Grievers I'll see."

You put on a silly protective face and Newt chuckles. "You're adorable," he yawns and closes his eyes.

"Good, the Grievers will have mercy on me."

He just smiled and shakes his head before falling into sleep again. You do the same once you know he's asleep peacefully and happy.
