Chapter Five || Autumn's POV

Published: 25th of July 2013.

***A/N Dedicated to Belly for being constantly supportive of my story and for writing the best fanfics ever. The character of Alexandra in this story is based on her, even though she doesn't appear much. This chapter was so fun to write, cause I love Autie! Enjoy reading***

I wish I was in this dorm! Everyone has a best friend who they can laugh and joke with and in my dorm I'm just stuck with a load of older girls who I don't know.

Actually, strike that, everyone has a best friend except Chloe. I thought she was one of those super popular girls who have loads of friends, but I guess these girls don't appreciate her enough or something. I thought she was best friends with Paige actually, but I know that Dance Moms is partly scripted and maybe they scripted that too, since they are both blonde and look alike.

During the Pitch Perfect riff off, when everyone's singing along to all the songs at the top of their voices (including the rap, which is a bit of a disaster), I turn to Chloe.

"Are you okay?" I whisper. "You seem really sad." I don't even know her yet, but I feel like I do from watching the show, and I want to make sure she's okay.

She hesitates. "I miss my mom," she whispers back.

"Me too," I comfort her, "but we'll be seeing them super soon, at the next competition. That's not all that's upset you, is it? I can tell there's something else."

"It's Paige," she whispers. "I think she hates me and I don't know why!"

I give her a hug. "Why on earth would she hate you, unless you've done something wrong? She wouldn't hate you for no reason. She's probably just busy with other stuff. Or maybe she's having trouble settling in. It'll all work out, I promise. You two are twinnies, remember?"

"Not anymore," she says.

"I think you should talk to her about it, Chloe. It's probably just a big misunderstanding."

"I don't know. I'll probably just make an idiot of myself. I'm not very good at talking about things."

"You won't," I smile. "You'll be good. Be confident in yourself."

"Thanks Autie. But there's something else, too. I'm really, really worried about Kendall."

"Kendall? Why? What does she have to do with anything?"

"Look at her. Properly. When you saw her at Pulse, and on TV, didn't she seems much more... rounded than she does now?"

"You think she's lost weight?"

"Quite a lot. I think it's her mum. I've heard her called Kendall fat when she's been angry quite a lot of times. And, also, Abby was in a bad mood once and she told Kendall that Brooke couldn't lift her in the group dance because she was too fat. If I still remember that, what's the betting Kendall does?"

I look at Kendall out of the corner of my eye. She does seem quite a lot slimmer than before, and I wouldn't say she looks happy either. She also hasn't touched her share of candy or popcorn. Maybe there's something in what Chloe's saying.

"I think she's okay," I decide, not wanting Chloe to have extra things to worry about. "Dancers often lose a lot of weight at a time, whether it's through hard work or eating healthier. That's what Mom told me."

"I think there's something wrong," Chloe insists. "I really do. I mean look at her. Maybe she's ill or something?"

"We'll keep on eye on her, kay? And we'll help her if she needs it. But right now, just enjoy yourself and forget about all the problems."

Chloe nods in agreement. "Thanks, Autie. You're the best."

As she says that, I see Paige lean forward to look at us. There's a glint of tears in her eyes. What is going on with these two?

It's almost midnight. The second film, Mean Girls 2, is over, and everyone's sleepily rubbing their eyes. Sophia carries Asia over to her bed and tucks her in with a cute hippo toy, and Maddie wriggles out of a boy's lap and starts putting Kenzie to bed.

"Are Maddie and Nick together?" I ask Chloe.

"Maddie and Nick?!" Chloe giggles. She's brightened up a bit. "No!"

"Okay," I smile. "Chloe, I have an idea."

"Tell me!" she says. I whisper my idea into her ear.

"Yeah!" she cries. "Go on, ask them."

Everyone's getting into bed. Chloe climbs up to her bunk bed and leaves me standing awkwardly in the middle of the dorm, on my own.

"Are you leaving now?" Paige asks. She says it nicely enough, but I don't think I'm imagining the slight hopeful tone in her voice.

"Maybe," I say. "I just had an idea. I was thinking, if I asked a teacher, could I join your dorm?" There's a chorus of 'yeah's and 'sure's.

Then Paige says, "Don't you think there's enough people in this dorm anyway? It's kind of small." Thankfully, everyone shouts her down. "You can't stay tonight, though," Paige reasons. "You don't have a bed."

"It's fine," Chloe finally chirps up. "She can share my bed tonight."

"Guys," grumbles Brooke. "Turn the light off and stop talking! I don't care who's sleeping with who, just go to sleep!"

I snort at how wrong that sounds and soon the whole dorm, even Paige, is laughing. I go over and turn off the light, then climb up the ladder to Chloe's bed.
