Chapter Thirteen || Autumn's POV (Part Two)

The competition's drawing near, and there's tension in the air.

Chloe's jealous of me doing a duet with Paige, and it shows. Apparently they rarely did duets together at the ALDC and they were hoping to get one here. Maddie's stressing out majorly about her solo, because she doesn't feel it's perfect and she has some acro tricks in it that she can't stick. Miss Kristina says that Kendall is making the group dance look sloppy and that she should be taken out, which makes poor Kendall burst into tears.

But everything gets to its worst later in the day.

Kristina has let us off for a five minute water break and Paige and I are due to run our duet afterwards while Chloe runs her solo, but when Miss Kristina calls us back neither Paige or Chloe are anywhere to be seen.

She tells me to go and look for them, and after five minutes I find them both in our changing room, sharing a packet of Haribos and making a Video Star.

I feel awkward, like the teacher's pet, as I go in and ask them to come back to class.

Paige looks up at my reproachfully, sucking a sour cherry, and Chloe nibbles a fizzy watermelon slice.

"What did you say?" Paige asks. 

"I said, Miss Krisina needs you for our duet and Chloe for Jar of Hearts," I say clearly.

"Boring!" Chloe laughs. "Do we have to?"

"I think so..." I say cautiously. Paige sighs and gets up.

"Chloe, can I talk to you for a minute?" I ask.

"Uh, sure?" she says, but Paige comes and sits back down next to Chloe.

"Whatever you want to say to her you can say to me too. I am her twinnie, after all."

My throat tightens. "Okay," I manage to force out. "Chloe, it's just... after you made friends with Paige again I feel like you're either purposefully leaving me out, or you just can't be bothered to be my friend because I'm your second choice or something." I take a breath. "I moved to your dorm because I thought I'd finally found some girls who would be really strong friends. I guess I thought wrong."

Chloe glares at me and I brace myself for a bitchy remark, but none comes. Her face softens in to a smile.

"You're right," she sighs. "I've just been so caught up in everything and I was so relieved to have Paigey back as a friend that I... forgot about you. I know it's an awful thing to say, and I'm sorry."

"We've been horrible," Paige agrees after a pause. "But I think I speak for both me and Chloe when I say that twinnies... are history. We're triplets."

"Really?" I grin.

"Really," Chloe says fervently. She drags me in for a hug. Paige glances at the clock.

"Shoot!" she yelps. "Water break ended fifteen minutes ago! We are in SO much trouble!"

"Only one day before the competition and we're skiving off practise," Chloe giggles. "Come on, let's go!"

We laugh and run off together, the perfect three.
