Chapter Sixteen || Sophia Lucia's POV

***A/N I got eight votes for a new chapter by the end of yesterday! So.... I am posting a new one! YAY! This is kind of a filler chapter by the way. It's interesting, but not super exciting. The story gets a bit more dramatic at about Chapter 18/19. Don't forget that I love constructive criticism.***

Autumn, Kendall, Chloe and Paige get back very late - nearly midnight. Abby carries Kendall into her bunk bed and tucks her in, and Chloe, Autie and Paige curl up on beanbags on the floor. Instead of Abby telling them not to be stupid and to get into their own beds, she gives them a friendly nod and shuts the door.

In the light of the corridor lamps that shine through a crack in the door, I see Chloe feel for Paige's hand and find it. They both squeeze tight.

At breakfast, Autie, Chloe and Paige sit with Kendall and joke around, trying to make her laugh. They don't suceed. Chloe says something to Kendall and Kendall shakes her head. The four of them go up to the clear up counter and start clearing their plates away.

I intercept Chloe just before she leaves.

"We'll go up to the dorm and meet you there," Paige smiles, linking her arms with Autie and Kendall. As soon as they've gone I start talking.

"Listen Chloe, can you tell me what's going on? One minute you're arguing, the next you're best friends again. Kendall faints on stage, and suddenly you can break all the rules. You're not speaking to anyone outside your little group. You're not speaking to ME. I thought we were friends!"

Chloe looks pained.

"I would tell if I could," she says. "I really would. But I can't. It's Kendall's to share, not mine. I'm sorry, I just can't. I want to be your friend, honestly I do! But right now, it's all about Kendall."

She told me so honestly that I can't stay angry with her. I give her a hug.

"Good luck with... helping Kendall. You're a great friend. And I understand."

She smiles genuinely, then runs off.

All throughout the day I see those four together. Kendall and Chloe talking in the dorm, Chloe, Autie and Paige having a hushed discussion while Kendall's in the shower, Paige, Autie and Chloe practising their new dances and asking Kendall for tips.

Brooke and her friends Anna Rose and Alexandra go and sit with them. I join them and we share funny stories and eat cheese crackers which Alexandra brought. The food here is so bad that we jump at any chance to eat something else.

Brooke teaches use how to throw bits of cracker into the air and catch them in our mouths. Soon we're all doing it. Kendall joins in, but she's looking pale and she's eating the crackers slowly, her lips pressed together, like they're sawdust in her mouth.

"Are you okay?" Anna Rose asks Kendall, sounding concerned. She seems really nice. I don't think Brooke realises that we all look up to her and her friends, but we do.

I admire her- the way she deals with most problems and arguments so calmly, and is always someone you can trust and lean on when things get rough.

Kendall looks at the floor and nods. Anna Rose flashes a glance at Brooke that says, 'Can I try to help her or would it make things worse?' Brooke shakes her head.

"Leave her," she mouths, and Anna Rose nods and smiles.

"That's a cool drawing," I say to her. She has a notepad in her hand and there's a cute little drawing of a fox-type creature with big eyes.

"Thanks," she smiles. "I can teach you how to draw it if you want?"

Kendall's going to be missing dance for a few weeks, so she's in the dorm when we get back. She's lying on her bed crying.

Maddie trys to go to her, but I hold her back. Chloe, Autumn and Paige run over and wrap their arms around her, but she pushes them away almost violently.

"I'm not important enough to have you worrying about me. I'm not good enough to be anyone's friend. I might as well not be alive!" I hear her sobbing into the pillow.

"Shhh, you know that's not true," Chloe comforts her.

"Don't lie, don't lie!" Kendall cries. I have to turn away from the misery in her voice.
