He watched from the large concrete balcony at the left wing of the old castle, his hands locked behind him, peering up at the beautiful night sky embroidered by a veil of million stars encasing both those that seemed so near and those that were almost oblivious blinking dots.

The smell of the forest below filled his nostrils and the wind swooshed through his shoulder length hair as if urging the strands to soar with it in playful flight. His black overcoat fluttered behind him from the constant invasion of the wind, his face was devoid of any expression pertaining to the beautiful night, his expression was rather grim.

His forehead was furrowed in thought but his blue eyes were as cool and welcoming as ever. Jason Lockwood, no longer the naïve lover boy of nineteen was now well muscled, an extremely handsome man with a fine chiseled face stared blankly from the high balcony on the old castle he had lived in for centuries, slightly hidden in the forest, his heart seeking warmth and peace, his soul seeking rest from all the weariness the past centuries had inflicted on him.

He could feel his servant, the midget, grumbling as he paced back and forth in his small leprechaun-like shoes behind him. Doblin was more of a midget with almost a large head covered with little sparse hair, short strong stubby arms and legs but not that appalling. He followed Jason wherever he went and hardly let him out of his sight for five minutes except Jason insisted he be alone. Jason turned slightly to stare down at the restless midget.

"Why the restlessness, little one?" He asked, turning back to face the forest.

"Butifull skyy...butifull skyy... " He gibbered in an hoarse voice, still pacing but occasionally locking his hands behind him except when he gesticulated.

Jason blinked. "...beautiful night you mean?" He guessed, sensing where the topic was heading to.

"Yah!" Doblin nodded sharply, stopping for a brief second to stare up at his master. "ya nevva go huntin' m'lord, ya nevva!"

Jason smiled slightly but briefly, he had forgotten how to smile in his cold days since he transformed, he only knew how to leer and for centuries, he had preyed on young girls. "I'm tired of drinking the blood of the innocent...the night is beautiful to watch than to hunt in it." He put his hands on the banister, his Keen sight watching the lights of buildings and cars far beyond. "...And besides, there are more than enough pints of blood in the mini bank to drink to quench the urge, desire and test of preying on the ignorant humans."

The midget grumbled and slumped down on the floor, his short stubby legs stretched out in front of him. "...Doblin tired of indoors...Doblin wannto have funn, Doblin wanna scare people, Doblin want some galies" He grinned, revealing his uneven brown teeth at the last sentence. He was a lover of pleasure from girls.

Jason scoffed within him. Doblin was not a monster like the ignorant people regarded him, he was just a little supernatural man that loved the attention of girls and when Jason went hunting, he often compelled the girls to shower him attention and love, that was the part Doblin liked, sitting in their midst and having them caress and take care of him till Jason finished feeding on every one of them one at a time, but that was a long time ago.

Jason discovered he didn't like the idea of taking human lives. It no longer really thrilled him like it still did the other vampires.

He had stopped and taken to storing up blood in the castle from the blood banks in several hospitals, he moved away from the baluster, slowly walking past the midget. "...And Doblin will scare and have some girls when the time comes." He assured the midget just to calm him down even though he knew his days of killing the innocent humans were over.

Jason turned swiftly, his coat twirling with him. He perceived he was not alone, to prove his keen senses right, the midget also picked up the alien scent of an intruder and sprang to his stubby feet, sniffing aloud, bearing his teeth and ready to charge. "Doblin smells intrudaaa..." He whispered hoarsely.

Jason keenly scanned the edge of the balcony and when the unfriendly scent hit home, he shot out his fangs. "Show yourself , Nigel!" He ordered in a gruff frightening voice.

A man sudden leaped out of nowhere and crouched on the banister, blood smeared around his mouth and chin from a fresh feed.

"Doblin smells baad maaan." The midget shrieked.

"Oh...tell your creature to zip it!" snarled Nigel.

"What do you want?" Jason asked coldly.

"I was sent by the elders... that time is running out on us."

"Last time I checked, time seems to be the very curse of our never ending existence!" Jason said sarcastically.

Nigel growled but ignored him. "The last conjurer almost succeeded." Blood dripped from his chin. It was obvious he just fed on a human some few minutes back. Jason knew Nigel's taste of prey were mostly young clubbing girls or lone women.

He had never liked Nigel for once and they had been nothing but rivals. It was however so unfortunate that Nigel was a distant cousin of Davina, his transformer and late wife. "...But it ended, failing when she fell in love with one of our kind, took in with child and fled to the mountains, dashing our hopes against the rocks!"
