Chapter Five

AUDREY'S P.O.V.
I chased minho all the way to the treehouse. We were far from the light of the fire but i knew exactly where to place my feet as I ran across the wooden bridges.
"Minho!" I called out as I stepped into the largest platform in the glade. I could hear yelling coming from the party that was behind us.
I didn't get a response so I yelled for Minho again. It was too far from the fire and late at night. It was alm ost pitch black and there was no way I was going to climb all over to find the boy.
"I'm going back to the fire so feel free to hang out in the dark all alone," I called. I turned to step into the bridge when an arm grabbed me around the waist. The person picked me up and spun in circles. "Minho!"
"Scared ya," he said putting me down. I spun and wacked him in the shoulder.
"You're beyond rude," I complained, "Come in, we're missing the party,"
"What happened to 'I'm gonna kill you'?" He asked mockingly.
"Oh I'll get my revenge," with that we decided to walk on the bridges on our way back. Once we reached the fire we stayed on the platform above the wrestling circle
Below us Gally was fighting some kid and had began to push him out of the circle. I noticed how he was heading straight for the newbie who had his back turned as he was talking to Newt. Before I could yell out a warning the greenie was pushed down. He quickly stood up and looked around confused.
"What do ya say greenie? Wanna see what your made of?" Gally asked
"Oh no..." Minho mumbled and I was thinking the same thing. We decided to jump down so we could watch and possibly help stop the fight. Gally could get rough during these types of games. When we got to the ground the gladers were already encouraging the greenie to fight which wasn't good. I walked over to Newt who was smiling like an idiot, probably slightly drunk. The chanting turned into loud cheers from all of the guys and I glanced at Minho. He knew what I was thinking, but we couldn't stop it now.
Gally explained the rules and automatically started the round. The greenie was pushed into a group of boys who pushed him back into the circle. After another push from Gally the greenie spoke up.
"Stop calling me greenie."
"Stop calling you that? Then what do you want to be called? Shank?" I rolled my eyes at his remark. "What do you think boys? Does he look like a shank?" cheers and laughs filled the air. Chuck who was standing next to me was forcing laughter and acting like he agreed. I hit him in the back of the head and gave him a glare. He knew it wasn't right.
"You know what? I think I'm settled on shank." Gally announced
When the greenie tried to fight back Gally began pushing him backwards. It back fired when the newbie took a step to the left throwing Gally to The ground. Gally swept kicked the greenies legs out from under him and his head hit the ground extremely hard. Suddenly Newt wasn't smiling anymore because he realized how dangerous this could be for some one so new.
"Thomas" the greenie whispered.
I glanced at Newt and took a step closer so i could hear better just to make sure I didn't imagine it.
"Thomas!" he repeated jumping up. "I remember my name. I'm Thomas!"
Cheers erupted and we all moved closer to congratulate him on remembering. Frypan welcomed him to the glade by handing Thomas a drink. Gally then shook hands with him and told him He did a good job.
Then the high pitched scream of a Griever came from beyond the walls. I jumped and grabbed newts arm. The cries always made me nervous. Newt looked at me and wrapped his arm around me pulling me into a hug. He knew how scared i was of them and the maze. He squeezed my shoulders making me feel safe like he always did.
"What the Hell was that?" Thomas asked
"That my friend was a Griever." Gally replied "don't worry you're safe here with us. Nothing gets through those walls."
"Alright guys. Lets tuck it in for the night. It was a good night." Alby said
"Its okay. You're safe Aud." Newt said looking down at me.
I nodded and pulled away from him.
"Do you wanna spend the night in my room?" he asked
I sighed and nodded again.
"Thanks Newt" I half smiled at him
He put his arm around my shoulders and We started on our way to the homestead. All of the keepers had bedrooms and mine and newt's were next to each other. I went into mine to put on an old shirt of newts and a pair of gray sweatpants then went next door. Newt was already in bed so i climbed in next to him. He wrapped his arms protectively around me and I rested my head I my big brothers chest. I fell into a light sleep and I could feel Newt pulling a blanket over me. That was when sleep fully took over.
