A Throne and a Baby

Prologue

"So Mom I have good news to tell you" eating a piece of apple.

"What would be the good news honey" Gloria was cutting more apples for a snack for me since I rarely come and visit her

"So I have some vacation time coming up and I have booked a flight for the both of us" grinning, I was excited to be doing something with her. People always said that I looked like her in the face but I got my height from my father. Gloria was a brunette while mine was more of a dirty blonde. She had blue eyes while mine were a deep blue, I was tall and she was petite. Everyone in our neighborhood loved her she was the sweetest person you would ever meet. Nobody really cared that she was a single mom, glancing at her "so what do you think"

"I think it's a wonderful idea sweetie. When do we leave?" putting down the knife to bring the plate of apples.

"In two weeks" taking another bite "I have everything planned"

"So it would seem that you have wanted to go for a while know" grinning.

"Yes,"

"So where are we going?" eating a piece.

"We are heading to Denmark," I could tell that she was in some kind of trance; her mouth was still open with the piece of apple sticking halfway out. She could only sit there and stare at me. "Mom, are you alright"

"Yes honey, I'm just excited about our trip. So what made you decide to go to Denmark?"

"Well I found some of your pictures from when you were younger; they were all taken when you were in Denmark right"

"Yes, I thought I put those in the attic"

"You did but I climbed up there when I was bored and wanted to snoop." leaning against the table.

"Oh" Gloria looked sad all of sudden.

"Mom if you don't want to go then I can get my money back and we can go somewhere else."

"No sweetie you don't have to do that" taking the plate away from the table. She was washing the dish to keep her back to me. I knew that something was bothering her but I couldn't figure out what it could be. Getting up I walked over to her and hugged her. "Mom I'm serious if you don't want to go then I can change. It seems like something you would not like to talk about is bothering you"

"Look we can go to Denmark; I would like to travel with you. I'm excited don't look to much into what I'm saying okay"

"Okay mom, I love you"

"I love you too" with that she turned and hugged me more closely then I have ever thought. Everything is going to be okay now. We both needed this time together.
