"An optimist can lose all hope." - Bella

Isabella's POV:

The look on King Edward's face was quite priceless, but I couldn't bring myself to laugh. The pain in my arm had been increasing steadily and I was almost positive I was going to pass out again from both blood loss and exhaustion.

"It's a long story Ed. Can you get them to a doctor first? Both of them desperately need it." Harry says to his brother, Edward looking over at us before nodding, curiosity still swimming in his eyes but I was thankful that he was going to wait.

Edward ordered a few guards to take us over to the doctor and my mother and I left without another word, following them down a long hallway as I looked over at my mother, seeing her struggling to keep up.

A pang of guilt hit me as I saw how beaten and battered she looked. It was my fault that she was taken hostage and used as bait. I'm just glad I got to her before they killed her. I wouldn't have been able to live with that.

"In here." one of them says in a deep voice and I nod, going through the door they were holding open and seeing a man who looked to be in his later 30's, a smile coming to his face as he saw us enter.

"Ah, what can I do for you?" he asks before the guards come behind us, making me jump in surprise whenever I hear the deep voice. "King Edward has asked for you to help these two ladies before they can return to him. They are, in his words, severely injured." the guard says and the doctor nods, waiting for the guards to leave before addressing us.

"So what have you two ladies done to yourselves?" he asks and I help my mother sit down on a chair before looking at him. "My mother was taken as a captive to lure me out, and I went to go get her." I say and he looks at me with a raised eyebrow.

"Your arm." he says, holding out his hand and I let out a sigh, walking to him and letting him inspect it. He takes off the makeshift sling I was in and unwraps the bloody bandage, muttering under his breath whenever he saw the state of my arm.

"This isn't going to be pretty." he says and I frown, looking down at the mangled mess that was my arm. It looked quite hideous if I was truthful, I just hoped he could fix it.

"You sit down and don't move until I get back. I'm going to get my helper so he can work on your mother while I take care of you." the doctor orders, his stern voice making me nod my head and sit down. He leaves the room and I turn to my mother, seeing a small smile on her face.

"Even after all this time, you haven't changed at all, Isabella." she whispers and I smile. "I thought I had." I say and she shakes her head. "Still the same stubborn girl who will do anything for the ones she loves. You've never changed that." she says and I laugh a little, a warm look on my face as I looked at my mother.

"I'm so glad you're safe." I say and she just giggles. "I'm a Martin. We don't back down that easily." she teases and I laugh. "That's very true." I say, the doctor walking back in, cutting off our conversation.

Another man was with him, one who looked younger than the doctor, but I had faith that he was just as good. "Carlos, take care of her. Get her examined and fixed up the best you can." the doctor says to Carlos, who nods his head before going to my mother, a big smile on his face.

I'm distracted whenever the doctor stands in front of me, making me look up to meet his gaze. "My name is Gregory. I'll need you to come with me, Miss-?" he pauses and I smile up at him. "Isabella." I say and he smiles.
