It was dark when Jane woke. The steady beep of the strange machine beside her seemed to be much louder in the black of the night though in reality it had been turned down.

In the quiet of the hospital, Jane lay staring up at the ceiling above her before sitting up for a glass of water. But as she did so, the door to her ward opened and Jane ducked back down beneath her covers, pretending to be asleep.

But not before he had seen her.

"Peek-a-boo," the voice called. He sounded different than he had in the day - sounded more mad. She pulled the covers down ever so slightly and lurched back when she came face to face with the man, his face just inches from her own. "You must be Jane Doe," he grinned manically.

"What do you want?" Jane asked him, her voice shaking.

"I just have to pay back a little debt," he said, drawing back. "You see, I know who you are and who your parents are and even where to find them." He glanced back at the woman in the bed beside her's as she turned onto her other side. Jane's eyes were wide.

"Why haven't they come to find me?"

"Because I killed your mother and put your father into ... well," he gestured around the darkened hospital dorm, "here."

"You're a monster," Jane choked out, disgusted.

"I prefer 'Dark one'," the man replied. "The name's Rumplestiltskin but you can call me Mr Gold. And I'm willing to make you a deal."

"To see my pa?" Jane questioned, her eyebrow arching. "If he's where you say he is then I can find him on my own, thanks."

"Oh that you will dearie," Mr Gold replied. "It's just whether you find him in time."

"What's the deal?"

"I'm willing to let you crawl back to your papa and I'll even promise not to hurt a single hair on his pretty little head but in return, you give him this." Mr Gold pulled out a vial with a black liquid inside of it.

"What is it?" Jane questioned, eyeing the bottle with suspicion.

"Sorry dearie, not part of our deal." He held the vial out to her. "Do we have a deal?" Jane hesitated. "Or I could just pop into his room and detatch the only thing which is keeping him alive. I really don't mind which." Jane took the bottle from him and the man smirked.

"Pleasure doing business with you."
