"Make way!" The heads of the crew turned as their captain's female companion burst up from the lower deck and hurled up over the side of the ship and into the sea.

Milah had been on the ship for just three months, yet she felt as though she had known the crew for a lifetime. Her time on the ship had started to show, though. Where an undernourished, flat stomach once was, a small bump had raised.

She could feel his hand rubbing small circles on her back as she raised her head and he turned her around to face him. Gently, the captain wiped away the strands of sick dangling from her matted hair and from around her mouth with his hankerchief before holding her at an arms length.

"Now love," he began, studying her closely, "there are four explanations for your condition. Either cook has been feeding you too much turtle, your seasickness has set in late, or you're ill. If it's the latter you're going overboard." Milah smiled - she could tell he was only jesting. The pirate she once knew would have, but even in such a short time, she'd noticed him change.

"That's only three," she pointed out.

"The last," he said, eyeing her stomach, "is that there is something you need to tell me."

"Well ..." Milah began but Killian turned to face his crew.

"Listen up mates!" he cried. "Milah has an announcement!"

Milah approached the top of the steps which lead down to the main deck and smiled down at her new family.

"I'm pleased to announce that I am with child," Milah said. Tears filled her eyes with her delight at the response. The crew gave an almighty roar as they cheered and Kilian wrapped an arm around her before planting a kiss on his cheek.

"Why didn't you tell me before?" he asked later as they undressed for bed. Milah looked round at hin uncertainly as he untied her vest.

"I wasn't sure how you'd react," she admitted after a pause. Killian spun her around and the vest fell onto the floor.

"It's terrific news," he told her sincerely. "Always wanted a little lad to pass on my devilishly handsome good looks and my extensive knowledge of the sea-faring world."

"And what if she's a girl?" Milah asked as he kissed her cheek and slid off her blouse.

"A lass?" the captain returned, smiling. "Thrown to the mermaids." He moved down to her bump and placed a kiss on her naval. "But whatever they may be, they'll have their father's love." Milah doubted that.
