That evening, the Jolly Roger anchored up as close to the back of the island as it could without running aground. Kiliah watched, upset, as Bae gathered up his things in a knapsack and walked over to the side of the ship.

"Eager to go, I see," she said, walking up and joining him.

Bae didn't look at her. "Just drop me off anywhere."

"You really think you can survive on you own?"

"I've never been given the choice."

"Well, you have one now," Kiliah replied, looking at him pleadingly. For his short time on board, it was almost like having her Ma back.

"Anywhere will do," Bae said, still not looking at her.

"I get you're angry. But it doesn't have to end like this!" Kiliah tried. "The ship can be your home, your family - just like it is for me. Just say the word and Pa will take you back without a thought. It's not too late start over. I can change, Bae, for you. I can learn to be good."

"You say that," Bae replied, walking backwards towards the other side of the ship. "I know you'll never change. You and Hook will always be the same. Because all you care about is yourselves."

"Thank you," Hook said walking up to him. "For reminding me what I'm all about—killing your father!"

Kiliah watched in horror as the lost ones climbed on board and took hold of Bae.

"You're not letting me go," he realised.

"How would that help me?" Hook replied.

"Pa! What are you doing?!" Kiliah cried, running forward, but Hook held her back. "No! Bae!"

"You hated my father so much, you didn't even realise you were just like him!" Bae cried to Hook as he was dragged off the ship and put into a rowboat.

Felix remained behind for a moment, standing on the side of the boat. "You have the boy," Hook said, looking up at him. "He will be pleased?" The lost boy doesn't answer, but Kiliah watched as he jumped back down into the boat. Just before the lost ones put a bag over Baelfire's head, he and Kiliah exchanged a long look as her struggles became more resigned. As the boat started to row away, Hook finally let go.

"He was my brother," Kiliah said in a low voice as Hook walked away.

"He was the Dark One's son," Hook argued, angrily. "But if he means that much to you, by all means go after him."

Tears began to prick at her eyes as she looked back at the little rowboat. Bae might be able to get away and live on his own, but she never could. She belonged on the sea, though that didn't stop her hating herself for letting Pan take Bae.
