The metal of the two swords clashed against against each other noisily as they were brought together, before one was swung downwards. Kiliah parried the blow and grinned up at her Pa as she pushed his sword sideways and kicked him in the stomach. He stumbled backwards a few paces before bringing the sword down again. Kiliah deflected it again, following her parry through with a small spin, but stopped as she felt the cool metal against her neck. She dropped her sword and raised her hands in surrender. Killian lowered the sword.

"You're nimble and strong, and you play dirty which is a good combination," he praised, slightly out of breath. "But you need to watch your turns." Kiliah nodded, and he clapped her on the shoulder. "You're a fast learner, love."

"I learn from the best," Kiliah smiled, lifting herself onto her toes to peck his cheek, before picking up her sword and heading over to join her Ma at the side of the ship. "What did you think, Mama?"

"Wonderful, darling," Milah replied, kissing her daughter on the top of the head. "Quite the little pirate!"

Kiliah grinned, but her smile quickly faded as she noticed the black ship on the horizon, sailing quickly towards them. Kiliah grabbed hold of Milah's hand, and she looked over at the looming shape in the distance.

"Killian!" Milah cried, and the pirate looked to her before the direction of the ship.

"All hands on deck, mates!" Killian replied, sprinting at once to the wheel. "Kiliah go below deck."

"Go!" Milah urged her, and Kiliah grabbed her sword before running downstairs.

As she hid in the small cubby-hole inside her cabin, she thought back to the ship in the distance. She knew that ship and recognised the flag. Flint had attacked before.

It didn't take long for the other pirates to board. She could hear the clash of the swords above her, and Kiliah clutched her sword tightly. The last time the pirates had attacked, they had barely escaped with their lives. She had to do something.

Kiliah opened the door cautiously. Nobody had come downstairs yet, so she inched along the corridor and poked her head over the top of the stairs.

Several men were already on the deck, but she noticed in relief that both of her parents were still fighting - her Pa dueling with Captain Flint himself.

Kiliah darted out from her hiding place and took down two men as she ran forward. She watched them drop down beside her and looked down at them, watching the blood ooze from their chests. As she looked down at the blood dripping from her sword, she felt a rush inside her. That felt good: watching her enemies' lives blink out in front of her by her own hand.

Consumed by bloodlust, Kiliah rushed forward, taking out everyone who stood in her path. In her haste, she lost sight of her parents and looked desperately around for them. Suddenly, she could feel something sharp pointing in the back of her neck.

"Now what do we have here?" a voice from behind her said. As the adrenaline left her, she started to feel scared. "Drop your sword, little one, and face me."

Shaking, Kiliah did as she was told, and the sword clattered to the deck. Slowly, she turned to face him, her eyes wide with terror as she saw who had got her.

"Well if it isn't the Captain's daughter," Captain Flint said, smirking nastily at her.

"Leave her alone, Flint." Standing behind him were her mother and father, each with their swords at his neck. "Surrender now, and I'll allow you to leave with your life."

As Captain Flint lowered his sword and turned to Killian, Milah beckoned Kiliah over and she quickly darted over to her mother.

"And why would I do that, Captain?"

"Because you made a grave mistake," Killian replied, and Kiliah could tell he was barely containing his anger. "You threatened my daughter. And if there is one thing I will not stand for it is that." He pressed the sword against Flint's throat, drawing just the slightest drop of blood. "Now I suggest you leave my ship before I change mind."

The two pirate captains held their gaze for a long moment before Flint looked away. "Back to the ship, mates!" he called, before turning back to Killian. "This isn't over, Jones. I'll be back, and when I am, I'm taking her."

Milah's grip loosened on Kiliah's shoulder as the pirate started to walk away, and she watched as her Ma grabbed Flint from behind and put her blade to his throat. "It is now." In one swift movement, Milah drew back her hand and the Captain fell to the deck.

Kiliah looked into the man's eyes as the blood started to trickle out of his mouth. In that moment she understood two things: the extent to which her parents were willing to go to protect her, and that there was no better feeling than watching the life fade out of someone's eyes.
