With a wave of her hand, The Evil Queen transported them from the tower to her solar. Kiliah looked around the room silently, taking in the sharp architecture and the dark colours which gave the room an impressive but intimidating feel. She felt her and the Queen shared many similarities - a hunger for power being just one.

The Queen poured two glasses of red wine and offered them to the pirates. “Things are about to change in this world... radically. I have plans to enact a curse that will take everyone to a far-off land.”

“How will that help us?” Hook asked, taking the glass.

The Queen stepped closer to him so they were standing mere inches apart. “This new realm? It's a land without magic, where the Dark One will be stripped of his powers. There you won't need any magical weapon to kill him.” She lifted the hook up to his chin, moving his head up. “You can do it with a mere flick of your wrist.”

“Tell me what I have to do.”

The Queen smiled and turned, walking away. “There's one person I don't want following me to this new land. You're to see to it that doesn't happen.”

“An assassination,” Hook realised, but he wasn’t surprised. It wouldn’t be their first contract kill. “Who is it you want me to dispose of?”

The Queen turned back to them and smiled murderously. “My mother.” She waved her free hand over the hook and it glimmered slightly, then she walked back to the pirates and locked the weapon back onto Hook’s arm. “It's now… enchanted. It will enable you to rip out her heart. I believe you've seen it done before.”

Hook swallowed. “Yes.”

“The enchantment will only allow you to rip out one heart, so make sure you do it right.”

Hook looked at her wonderingly. “What could she have possibly done to warrant such brutality?”

“That's my business,” the Queen snapped. “Yours is to kill her and bring her body back to me. If not, a wife will not be the only person you would have lost.” She waved her hand again, and once more Kiliah found herself wrapped in tight bonds. She struggled against them, reaching for her dagger to cut herself free, but it had gone.

“Easy enough,” Hook replied, keeping his voice level and trying not to betray the fear which had risen up inside of him. He’d vowed to keep her safe, and now he was going to leave her behind in the hands of the Evil Queen. He doubted she was given that name from kidnapping puppies. “When will I set forth on this murderous journey?”

“Immediately,” the Queen smiled, turning and walking over to her chaise lounge and revealing a body from underneath a cover. “But you won't be going alone. You remember Claude.”

“Can't say that I do.”

“Your daughter killed him in the cell block,” the Queen replied, disapprovingly.

“Ah, yes. I didn't recognize him without her sword in his front. Forgive me, but isn't he a bit of dead weight?”

“I banished my mother to a far-off land some time ago. You're going to need a portal to get to her. The rules are simple. One goes in, one comes back. Or in this case, two in, two back. You'll arrive with Claude, and you'll return with my mother.”

“Now tell me... which far-off land do I have the pleasure of visiting today?”

The Queen turned and smiled. “Wonderland.”

Hook shifted his weight uneasily. He’d heard whispers of such a place, but had never dared go there. Kiliah exchanged a desperate look with him as she too realised it was a suicide mission. “Aptly named, I'm sure. How will I find her?”

“Oh, don't worry,” the Queen replied. “She'll find you.” She reached for a hatbox under the table, opened it and threw the hat onto the floor. It spun wildly in circles, getting larger and larger until Hook and the guard were swallowed up in it, then – as quick as it started – it stopped.

Kiliah looked over to the spot where her father had stood just a second before as the Queen turned to her. She glared up at the witch. “What are you going to do to me?”

The Queen smiled humourlessly. “Nothing. You’re of no use to me other than a bargaining chip. We’ll soon see if your dear father chooses you over revenge”
